To all the wheel experts out there...

I weigh +-92Kg and I ride a Giant Tcr Advanced Road Bike. I have a set of Easton EA 50SL wheels. On sunday during the Burger after hanging on with the lighter guys over the Helshoogte climb i broke/snapped a spoke on the descent and the rim was bent to an extend that my wheel "wobbled" into the frame... Needless to say that was the end of my ride. I was very happy with those wheels but lately it felt like they were flexing a lot when I stood up or when I was peddling hard. I know they will be fine after a good re-tuning but....I am seriously looking at a new set of wheels that can handle my weight and a bit of hammering. Something with some sort of aero style as I use the bike for IronMan and other Triathlons as well. I am thinking about getting the American Classic Victory 30 Road Wheels. ???????????

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated....

Cheers
MEL

I have a friend who has same problem with his easton's. He is now riding Mavic's openpro...I also know that the Ksyruims handle weight very well...not really the profile you are looking for, but it will be ok with the weight.

Strange for eastons to do that, Johan Borman rates them highly. I weigh slightly over 100kg and have EA70 and Circuits and never had any problems.

I also have a set of DRC wheels which are bullet proof but not aerodynamic and quite heavy.

I weigh about 100kg and also have an issue with wheels.

The AC Victory 30's are supposed to be OK for our weight, and on paper look like great value for money especially considering their weight.
I had a set that lasted 250km before the spokes all got so loose, the tyre rubbed on my frame till it burst. NOT IMPRESSED.

I have a pair of Ksyrium Elite's from about 2006 and they have been pretty reliable.
They have succumbed to the typical Mavic problems of nipples bonding to the rim and the freehub body has developed a wobble.
Given the reliability of the previous Mavics, and the problem I had with the AC's, I got a pair of 2011 Elites and hope they also last

Easton Circuits are very good and light.I rode on them at 95kg's for are long time and never broke a spoke.

I now ride Mavic Aksium for training and Cosmic Carbone for Triathlons or else have Johan Bornman build you a set of wheels.

Have a friend who weighs a lot less than you and he's broken spokes twice on his Easton's.

Luckily I've never had a problem with any wheels.
I've ridden with Alex; Campag; Eastons; Mavic.
It never gets easier, I just get faster !!

Easton EA 90 SL....heavier than the SLX .....R4 hubs, 24 spokes front, 28 rear. Built for the heavier rider.
If you need more strength, then go for a custom build....DT 240 hubs, 32 spoke front and rear, Ambrosio or Mavic rims, 25mm tyres and you set for life.

Afraid to post my weight here but lets say they don't make wheels for my weight as standard. I ride spinergy and haven't had an issue. Spin fast and have been true to date. Also cartridge bearings so simple to maintain the bearings part

I weigh more or less the same as you and had a pair of Mavic Ksyrium ELites for about 4 years (±25000km) with no problem at all. I now ride the SL's for about 2 years and have done about 15000km with them with 2 spokes breaking on the drive side of the rear wheel. So I am of the opinion that the Elites are as they say bomb proof.

Ditto, they can carry over 140kg's. rode a set for a while and did not have one problem and they light. If you want something more aero you can look at the Dura Ace carbon 50. NO weight limit.
