So besides the misunderstanding with the start time it was great Tongue

So got there at 6 and had an hour and a half to kill. The caterers they had (Baobab I think they were called) were really great. They actually had breakfast food at 6:30am and not only burgers and pregos. Some tea and 2 pancakes later intercepted Dirt Rider on his way to registration and found out we are going to be a small, but never the less amazing, group of hubbers LOL. Scotty was there too...

The race was a bit delayed as we waited for a motorbike to lead us out. It never did arive so we fallowed one of the dudes at the end, who finally got his childhood dreams to come true and he was a lead "vehicle" for the short tar section. I lost DR after the tar although I told him I'd TRY and stick with him. I guess there's something bout sand and single track that strikes his fancy Wink

Not even in the first 5km, Jules had a puncture and that cost him valuable time Cry. I rode over some barbed wire, through a thorn bush and what not, but I guess me praying really hard not to get a puncture worked. I also didn't get to meet the vicious bush that attacked DR.....wonder what the explanations were yesterday LOL

I had forgotten the rocky climb but I just loved it Big%20smile something about technical sections that are uphill make me real happy. On my 2nd lap I could feel Scotty nearing but I just pushed and pushed until the 2nd last long section where I nearly saw my @ss, even though I had it in mind I had to be careful as that is exactly what happened on the first lap. Got on the tar and that was it for me....big blade and push push push. Throught the stupid wind.....Finished 2:33 something for the +/- 50km, I mean 70km race LOL. I thought I was about 3rd but little did I know that the girl with the Russian surname, that lives in SA now finished 2nd in fact Wink

Some beer, food and chit chat with mates at the end of the race is a real bonus and makes the pain worth it. The stalkers on the other hand are real real freaky.....

stalkers?

yeah....really weird

Some dude was riding around me on my first lap. He was talking to himself, then "let" me pass first on a section where I was ahead of him (like duh), then starts chatting on the bloody hill.....he is a roadie and this is real tough...I'm like ok whatever, he is gonna bail after the first lap (big man that 25km is a real tough ride I must say).

So at the finish he walks up to me and starts asking me questions, how did I do and bla bla bla....then stops by our car and just doesn't wanna go away....

Well done BG 2nd place and some money for booze !!!! The new single track that has been added was really awesome and on the first lap I did manage to loose the rear end and went straight through this little thorn tree . May he RIP ! My explanation was accepted without any further questioning . There was a lot of wires lying around next to the fence and I managed to get one into my rear wheel on the second lap ! Very difficult to get it out and it kept me busy for a full 10 minutes !

Same thing happened with me DR, just after the little technical climb, caught a piece of wire in my rear wheel. Thought initially I would just ride it off, but big mistake. Had to stop and unwind it out of my spokes. Luckily didn't take me as long as 10 minutes.

Once that wire goes into your rear sprockets it is a bugger to get out . It also bend my derailure out of shape a bit but fortunately nothing to seriaas . Somebody also must have removed some of those lovely big rocks on the last little downhill as it was a smooth as the road Marius wanna do on his road bike .

It was a great ride, and second the awesomeness of the neat little singletrack section!!!!
Jaco's shoulder is hurtin quite a bit after doing close inspection of some gravel section, and in spite of said delay still managed 3rd spot!!!

Well done!!!!

Might be a bit soon, but does anyone know where the results or photos can be found.

Hey BG well done! As someone said to me recently "you get what you work for" and you're getting there fast!

Gotta get me one of those prot.............

"Self-importance is man's greatest enemy. What weakens him is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of his fellow men. Self-importance requires that one spend most of one's life offended by something or someone."
