Hi
I was the victim of a attempted bike-jacking yesterday in Irene, behind the Smuts-house museum. A doos with a knife came running at me, I somehow managed to do a 180 and get away, trapping my bike like only burry can.The attacker let off after a about 20 or 30 metres, waving his knife at me and swearing. The incident happened in the forested section behind the smaller koppie(part of the down and dirty went through there). I've ridden there along in the past, but yesterday was the last time, for sure.

Good thing you got away, could have been a lot nastier.
Sounds like the oke could have been pissed/high/nutters or all the above.
Hope you reported the incident, let the SAPS and co build up some info. I know there's someone on the hub who interacts on regular basis with the SAPS and security in the area.

The best place to report this incident is at the Pierre van Ryneveld police forum. It is located in Van Ryneveld Ave next to the TOTAL. They try to patrol the veld between Pierre van Ryneveld and Nellmapius Drive, but will take the info on criminal activity around Smuts house also into consideration.

Well okes, after the knife incident I heard about five nasty horror stories about bikers getting seriously hurt in irene/centurion/r21 routes. It sucks not being able to ride alone where we want to, but i'm not taking any chances anymore, nobody should. I really don't think you'd be able to stop, get the pepper spray out, fire at the attacker..AND stop him in his tracks in the few second you have to react. These skelms know what they're doing and would blink at sticking a knife in your ribs.
Was a good story to tell my mates at the club though.
