It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.

If it is JB Train Tours, they have a goods coach (?) where you stack your bicycle side by side with the rest. The best is to box your bicycles. Wrap it in a blanket inside the box. If you do not have a box, bubble wrap it carefully. Some of the guys feel nothing for your bicycle and dont even bubble wrap their bicycles
There are personel from JB Tours that help you to load your boxes and at the station in CT, it gets loaded onto trolleys and taken to the hotel. Just make sure your bicycles are well protected.

I have taken the train down to CT 5 times now, the last few times with the JB tours option. The bicycles are put in a seperate carriage, based on which station you board the train. In all instances I loaded my bike myself, but there are a lot of willing hand available to offer assistance. It is best to either bubble wrap your bike, or transport it in a Race Case or simmilar. I have a home-made "bag" in which I transport my bike. You then secure your bike to the railings with tie-straps to prevent it from falling arround during the trip. I have been very fortunate and never had so much as a scratch on my bike during transportation. JB tours also have a person dedicated to check on the bikes at every station. I most probably will be going down next year with JB Tours again.

Did it about 3 years ago from Park station on the Shosholoza Meyl. Cost around R600. Just loaded the bike onto the cabin with all the bikes with some bubble wrap for protection. Didn't do the return trip - donated the friggin' piece of cr@p bike to the closest marshall I could find at the finish
