Is this a new race designed purely to cash in on the chocolate and roses absurdity or is it worthwhile..... I am contemplating taking the missus out there on a tandem but don`t want to arrive there only to find a couples on in matching two tones and takkies on makro specials. Anyone with experience of this race?

Seems like a new race but there always seem to be races on down there. It will probably be over the same route as all the others. I have down a couple of races out there over the years and they all seem worthwhile.

You'll be surprised bud, that far south the spectators might not wear shoes or have front teeth, but their races sure are tough!
Starting at StoneHaven I presume? Following the now infamous route out over Ertjies Berg and back...or out towards Sasolburg, its all the same, a 2hour suffer fest!

I think the ertjiesberg route is a 93km route or something. The 80km is probably an out and back route, turning in the middle of nowhere just over the N1. It's a fast ride if the wind stays away. The road can get busy with Sunday drivers taking chances to overtake the cyclists. The marshals aren't always awake at intersections, so keep your eyes open.
I think, therefore I go fast

We'll see you there, on the tandem as well, DirtyFrank. It is a flatish route but the wind is a huge factor in the race. The last 2km before the end is a heart breaker turning of the highway onto the bridge. Don't worry, the racing is as intense there as in any JHB race !

I told you so ...
Half of MTN and the old Neotel was there with a few guys from North West. VERY windy, but a good race. Road service not to bad and enough water tables and drinks at the end. The medal was also nice
How did you guys find it ?

How did you guys find it ?Nice race....first on a Tandem with the missus( who has never been on a road bike or tandem ,second race and all).....we were going well untill we ended up with 2 punctures at approx 57km and then at 65km....still great fun and now I may end up with another bike in the garage...Only 1 gripe ....the start was poorly organized with some real funriders jumping the gun....licenced means licenced to race not drive a car or own a TV guys.
