So we can turn it into a Hub competition - the first one to get his name and contact details gets (drum roll)

Quote

Transferred from the Emperors Thread.

This guy was at Emperors in the 'homemade' kit, the wooly hat and the old bike

Information is that he finished at around 10:57 and, I think, he started in GL.

If anyone can identify him, and find some contact information, I think that, petween us, we could 'upgrade' his kit for him.

(note the homemade chamois sewn on the outside of his shorts! You can't see in the picture, but he's also sewn some strips of material on his tee shirt to make it look more like a cycling shirt!)

I'll buy him a bigger tool bag!!!

I have some new-ish Sora kit, including STI's and RD. Not sure what else.

So I've failed in my quest to identify him - no response from RaceTec CryUnhappy

Please keep an eye our for him at the Ride For Sight (Pun!) and get his contact details (or at least Race Number) - then we can sort him out with all these offers of help that have been made.

You're not going to believe this.....

I FOUND YOUR CYCLIST Thumbs%20Up

I'll pm you his cell phone no.

We were travelling to the botanical gardens, and I spotted a cyclist on the Krugersdorp highway and next thing I started yelling 'hey, that's the guy Dave is looking for' - my poor hubby nearly had heart failure.  He thought I was nutz - next thing I'm begging him to pull over because I had found your cyclist - he (hubby) was very confused.  LOL

He stays in Tembisa but was cycling to visit family in Krugersdorp or something like that.

Well done Michelle - I got your PM.

From Michelle - he is doing the Carnival City, but couldn't afford to do the Dis- Chem as well.

I'll try to make contact with him, and will try the organisers of the Dis-Chem to see if we can get him an invite.

What else does he need ?
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

I have some new Handle Bars and  Tape and will do a service on his brakes and gears. Also as National Brand Manager for Fast Fuel I will give him all the nutrition he needs for the next 6 months and 20 new water bottles.
Got new Bib shorts and shirts for him too.

Thanks Murray and all of the others who have offered support for him

This is the E-mail I've sent to Dis-Chem (hopefully they'll pick up on it - unless there is a 'Hubber' who is Mr. Dis-Chem)

During the recent Emperors Classic Cycle Race, a lot of us cyclists spotted a cyclist in home-made kit, with a very old bike. He has inspired a lot of the more ‘affluent’ cyclists to offer donations – see the following HubSA threads:

http://www.thehubsa....?TID=76006&PN=1

http://www.thehubsa....rs+palace&PN=12

(I’m levett on the Hub)

We’ve finally managed to track him down, but only have a Cell Number (079 *** ****) and not his name – he lives in Tembisa.

The Hub Member (Puncture Girl) who got his number said that he was doing the Carnival City Race, but could not afford to do the Dis-Chem ride for Sight as well. Is there any way that you could give him a complimentary entry – that way all the Guys and Girls from the Hub could meet with him and offer support.

If this is not the right place in Dis-Chem to be asking for this, could you please pass this request on to the right people.

Thanks,

levett.

I just spoke to him (Harry) - so the number I got is correct.  Woohooo!!

He told me that he cycled 210km's today and when I asked him about how he gets to the races - he told me he cycles from Tembisa.  (WOW!!)

To all of you who have offered your help - Thank you Clap - I believe it will make a huge difference in his life.  He is very passionate about his cycling.

Levett,

I am mates (used to work with him, and just done him a huge favour for one of his clients, so he owes me big time) with the Race Organiser of the Dischem, I will drop you his details via a PM.

He also organises the 94.7 and some other races.

Edit.. come to think of it.. he owes me big time for the same client on two occasions...

lets make this happen!

This is great, but what does the poor oke do for a living?

Otherwise we will need to help there as well or he will never really be able to focus on his riding.

I am impressed with the hubbers on this one. Sure is refreshing to see that out of all the mess in the world there are still people who care even if for little things.

This makes one to be pround to be a hubber!!
