***Quick punt***

You can collect your Carnival race numbers at Cyclelab Pta (Thu)and Jhb (Fri) as well as TDF on the Sat. :)
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

This is a call to all race organisers out there.....officials.....CSA dudes and dudets......people with common sense.

Can't we just PLEASE print our own numbers?  Just send it to me via Pdf to my mail box and I'll print with your logos on........

Or even BETTER.  ONE number every at he beginning of every year.  I'll pay MORE.

PLEASE????????????????????????????????????

I had to drive all the way out there to get my race number for Saturday.  Took me almost 2 hours.  Away from work.

Got there.  Got my number.  Left.  No goody bag.  No sales to the bike shop.  Nothing.  Just one half page number.

That trip now makes my entry to the race DOUBLE.

SURELY in this day and age you can see the worth in that?

What are the reasons that we HAVE to collect ourselves??????

To check our license?  Surely that can be loaded to your name and if you enter without a valid CSA license you will not be allowed to enter?

What other reasons?

I can understand events like Argus and 94.7.  Too many "ride once a year" riders.

But for the rest......COME ON!?!??!!!??!?!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?

EASY.

Move to KZN.

I agree 100%. It took me two hours to get to Fourways and back this afternoon.
I'll print the number. I'll pay R50 for them to pay someone else near me to print the number. I'll pay R70 for someone to bring the number to me. Just don't make me waste my life sitting in traffic.

or they can snail-mail it, if they don't like the print it option (I can see somebody printing 10, and selling the other 9  )

Permanent number for the year.  Sorted.

I can cheat with the number that I collect also....point being if you want to cheat, you can either way.

Permanent race number.....not happening.
Scan you before you enter the starting shoot and they know if you entered the race or not.

SURELY this will relieve a LOT of work and $$$ on the organisers' side?!?!?!???!?!

Surely the solution would be to link your chip to a number, and to you? All you'd really need is the chip, and the permanent number, which is the chip number?

Fully agree (snail-mail being cheaper than the R70 proposed, was the gist of my thoughts)

At least you don't have the ridiculous situation that we had a couple of weeks ago in the Mother City:
Entered online
Pitched at the event
"did you enter online"
"Yes I did"
"OK, here's your sticker"
"What, no list to check my name?"
Last Q of mine was met by all 6 people sitting at the tables with a mockery laugh, at such a ridiculous notion.

Meanwhile, the on-the-day entry table was manned by only a couple of persons...

why not enter the race legitimately then when you get your race number SMS just print your own number anyway? Most licensed riders fold their jersey numbers over so no one will notice

I have decided I no longer drive out for race numbers.  I print out my race registration confirmation and keep that in my pocket to show if anybody tries to stop me, and thats it.  I am sure they cant force me not to ride if I have proof i paid.  maybe if more start doing that they will getr the message
Presume you still get a race time on racetec/championchip?  Would have thought they may DQ those who register a time but who never collected race packs...

Another issue for me is why are the numbers still given with four pins to pin it to your shirt, make it sticker based so you stick it onto your shirt, takes 5 seconds and will stay on the whole race, permanent number like the SAS races will also work 100's in the road events we can just attach it to our bikes like the elites do

So the way I understand PPA work is that you get a group number based on your seeding and you use it in all the races they host. If your seeding improves then you apply for a new number.

Surely we can adopt a similar system.

The problem that I am seeing is that a lot of noise is made on this forum with no critical mass. The decision to adopt a new system is not going to happen here.  What needs to happen is that people on this forum who have influence get together and talk and create a well formulated action plan, that they then present to the relevant decision making authorities - be it Gauteng Cycling or CSA.

The success depends on the agreement buyin and viability of the presented solution being a win-win for all.  I don’t know the cycling communities – race organisers clubs etc.  But I do know that people don’t like to take initiative and actually do the work.   Because it means that we have to work.
So the question then is who are willing to get together and drive this?

Worked so well for me with the Ride for Sight race. I work in Centurion so I just popped in, nice and easy. And I was in a good mood so I spent some money on extra goodies. Win Win all around.

I like the option to specify a prefered pick up point when you enter... CL centurion, CL fourways etc....
