I don't wear pants or Ts that cost more then R150. Button shirts have a R250 limit. Shoes have a R350 limit. That way I can spend more on my bikes.

Im not sure what a bicycle's expected life is, but depreciate it the same way and you will find that second hand prices are not unrealistic on the hub.

The fact remains that you DO NOT NEED to buy a bicycleWhich cant be said of all the other "monopolies/Catels" that you mentioned.
There is a old saying Time = Money
Although to be correct it is Time = money when your selling and Time = 1/Money if your buying.

If people have (more) time when they are selling stuff they can ask more money for it. If they in a hurry they will have to price it lower.

I agree with this, but do it via PM, not directly in the sale post. Far too many wanna be 2nd hand dealers on the hub that think they ordain the going rate for a product. These chaps generally just kill the guys hopes of a sale, if you really want to help you would make use of a PM.
If there is a silly buyer out there willing to pay too much, that is his/her problem, should have done their homework.
Same goes with offers below asking price, rather stick them out there via PM, you can create a false perception that the seller's product is not work anything but what you're offering.
All in all I agree there are many sellers out there asking far too much for their used goodies, but that is their right and chances are they won't sell until they reduce their price.

I don't need Mnet, I don't even have a (working) TV. I do, however, need a bike. It gets me to work and it makes me happy.
In fact, I think if more poor people could afford a bike, they would not need to pay transport costs. There would be less cars on the road and more happy people. Maybe we should change what you consider needs and try and help as many people as possible.
We as cyclists all want South Africa to be a more cycle friendly society- at this stage we are the only ones who want that, yet we are the ones making (or keeping) it inaccessible and elitist. The only way to make it a more cycle friendly country is to get more bikes on the road.
