I have been waiting for this event to open for entry for like a year, ever since I saw the pics and fatcyclist talking about it. I so want to do this ride.

Well, at the end of the month the training starts for real. And I posted this under events as it will be an event in itself when I start and when I finish. Those been on the hub for a while will recall "the buy" which started my cycling. Also my first mtb ride, and the 100 miler. So you will know this is a big thing (well for me).

So this here thread will be my "hub" diary for training for Desert Dash. Due Date, 18 - 19 December 2009.

Edit: I have entered the solo at last. Let the journey begin Big%20smile

and to save you from searching

Enjoy bud. My training for the Epic starts this weekend. Got clearance from the Doc so I am ready to start the pain fest.

Keep us updated and join us for the long rides if possible over weekends.

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

scuzzy, come do the solo with me first time round .... just jump in the deep end. I mean its 24 hrs to do 340km's, how bad can it be ? Thats 14 km/hr on dirt roads ....

I did it in a 4 man team back in 2007 and we won the catagory! haha! Probably the only winners medal I will ever get on the bike! It is a FANTASTIC race with a amazing atmosphere.  Im going up again for it this year...but will do it in a two man team with my EPIC partner.  We might upgrade to the SOLO but will see.  There are two passes on route.  The first two legs includes these two climbes.  In my opinion the climbes arent bad.  Be sure to take good lights with!  In 2006 a guy was "followed" by a Hiyena in the dark for about 2kms! haha!

To those of you starting EPIC training now already... Hats off! I feel its a little early still.  If you start EPIC specific training now, you would have plan it very carefully.  My advice (ive done it twice and going for my third) is just ride regularly for now...anything between 8-10hours a week should be fine before stepping it up in October.

See you at the dash!

It is flat.  It runs through the desert and there aint any real mountains out there.  So apart from those early two climbes there aint much climbing at all.  There is a few sandy patches though, and this can make it difficult in the dark especially! But hey...it being a reletively flat race still does not detract from how special this race is!  For many it is a family affair and then offcourse for Mannie Heymans it is to conquer the desert and "kick sand in its eyes"! : )

flatline, if one is only starting the training for the solo DD this weekend, and there is 3 and a half months left, is it possible to be ready ?
