Hi everyone. I personally think that to avoid these so called scammers, you maybe need to change the style in which you sell your gear. I have sold plenty cycling stuff and I find the following very effective:
Establish a good relationship with your local bike shop. Ask them if you can advertise on the Hub/gumtree etc... and arrange that the parts are viewed at their premises.

Wants to buy it for his son in JHB who is going to ride the 94.7.
Will pay from his Std Bank Credit card directly into another Std Bank Credit card. Wants me to find someone with a Std Bank card to do the deal.
Sounds as if he is changing his mode of operation.

You know things in this place are bad when even professional escrow companies (Thirt) close because of the fraud...
If only these guys put their ingenuity to some good!
Don't have any good tips for sellers, except wait for funds to clear. Had cheques stolen a while ago, canceled them, but the **** it caused was...
Buyers: Paying by credit card via paypal is the way to go, in case it doesn't work out your bank may be able to get the funds back

You can only buy foreign goods via Paypal, so thats not really going to help. I used to be a Thirt user, was a really great service and a pity they had to shut down.

Exchange control regulations mean that you cannot accept payments on a Paypal account that is linked to a South African bank account/credit card and address. It works really well for buying stuff on eBay, though.
