Yes.  KM told me how shocked and horrified she was that I might imply that they might sell email addresses, and that she would investigate.  Then came back and told me that no they don't sell email addresses.

At which I then got a whole batch of spam come through.  Any time I deal with them I get spammed.

Personally I think that they have someone working for them who is taking the p!ss, but that is just my reading if it.

Interesting that mountain_lion is also getting the same pattern of spam that I am.  Just reinforces the suspicion that I have that someone in their IT dept is selling email addresses - either with media24's knowledge, or with out.

However, I gave up - nothing in any dealing I've had with Bicycling has ever lead me to believe that they are capable of dealing with their customers in any half decent way.

And I didn't feel like dealing with the blast of spam that I get when I do contact them - so, they win. AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

Why not set up an auto forward to anything that comes to your bicycling address? Send all of that to them.

Hmmm.  Or set it up to KM so that she gets some idea of why it is so annoying...

OK, I emailed Kirsten (now Curtis) at Bicycling.

She replied that she will investigate this and requested that I send her some examples of the SPAM received. I do not keep SPAM, but it should only be a matter of time before the next lot arrives...
I am sure some of you will also be able to help... Evil%20Smile
Kirsten's address is: kirsten dot curtis [at] touchline dot co dot za

Just an update on this from my side.

The police are not much use at all so the next step was to send an invoice for R6000 to Affinity Data and MLD Marketing who I discovered had also sold my email address to somone else to spam.

The guy from Affinity called me within an hour to discuss it. He admitted that he did not own my email address which to me means that he has no rght to sell it. He said that I should take it up with the direct marketing association which I am not prepared to do so in the end it boiled down to him saying that my name had been removed and that I should sue him which I will gladly do so next week the first letter of demand goes out.

The guy from MLD also got hold of me pretty quickly by email to apologise and say that he does it part time and has only made R3000 in the last month from selling email addresses. BooHoo I dont care pay up or you will also be in small claims court.

If these guys were above board then why dont they have any contact details on their sites.

Bring on the next spammer...

You don't know for sure they sold the email address. Their website is hosted by Internet Solutions so it could be someone from there that's stealing addresses. .

Pity... if it was at MTN Business or Vodacom Business, I could try get the website killed for you.... I'll speak to a mate, he may still know some people at IS...

Cause you know, legislation in other countries holds the ISP liable as well, and the same flavour of law is being tabled here in sa too...

We got spammed so much that we had to change e-mail addresses to G Mail. That helped a lot. There is a function were you label an e-mail as spam, and the system stop it. It also get reported as spam, and if too many people report this, Google starts to block the sender.

How does this give you the right to spam someone?

Dear Murray,

Please inform my employer as well. I think you guys act like parasites.
