Click top right to view the profile as well. I had to guess the route after Jan Van Riebeeck Road meets the N1 as the map sent out to us made no sense to me at that point - showed us riding on the N1.

I did everything by the seat of my pants. That's why I got hurt so much.

Have a look at the kmz files on the Stellenbosch Rotary website
This shows the route going parallel to the N1 and crossing the bridge over the N1 at Paarl Mall. This route matches the advertised distance of 106km.
Also note that the start is at Techno park, but the finish (timing mats) are on the R44 just past Stellenbosch flying club. Last bit is neutral back to the venue.

Thanks, updated the route. Much easier to see what's going on with Google Earth.

How will the predicted strong NW wind for tomorrow affect the race?

We will mostly be riding into the wind.
Expect large bunches.

Going towards Franschhoek we might have wind slightly from behind, but the wind can do funny things there...
Heading back to Stellenbosch on the R304 the wind should be from behind and also on the Anandale road. For rest, find a big guy's wheel and stick to it. Smile

That seems unlikely given that the route does not follow a straight line.

Ok, just got home after the race.
Went well, managed to stick with front guys of the "G" bunch most of the way, even doing my bit of pacemaking. Wind was hectic, especialy the sections going into it and the crosswinds.

We were bowling along very nice, sitting at 2:45 at the 100km mark( on my Polar) Just after the second right turn outside Stellies (think it is the R310, not sure of roadnames as yet) a couple of my fellow pacemakers came down hard (think one of them lost control after hitting those crappy little bumps right on the edge of the tar on the left curbside.) It was mayhem, but I was lucky enough to have been on the right handside and managed to avoid going down also. The pace dropped down a bit, and at the second to last left turn (the one leading up to the R44) I was boxed in on the left handside and could not get past quick enough. The elastic broke, and the frontrunners rode away from me. Could not catch up again, and took it a bit slower to the finish. What a b1tch those last couple of kilometers are, especialy the climb into the wind on the R44.

Still finished on a 3:05 or thereabouts on my Polar. Also got 110km for the distance.

All in all, a nice ride, my form is not too bad (not quite there yetEmbarrassed), but I'm a happy chappy.

Any idea when the results will be out, and where I could get them?

And true as hell it was that Cross wind that killed me/sperated me from the bunch-nice result nonetheless.

Wind was not nearly as bad as I expected.
Still it was mostly the older guys (40+) in our group who were prepared to work into the wind. Even asking nicely could not convince the young guns to take a turn on the front.
Only after we turned at Paarl and the wind was less of a factor did the laaities come to the front to hot up the pace and make us who worked into the wind suffer on those little rollers. Angry
At least I got some good training out of it.

Had 2 close calls with riders going down 2 bikes in front of me, but was fortunately able to stay up and go round both times.
All in all a good ride.

Results (for riders with timing chips) will be posted on the Racetec web site
Might be up later today, else Monday.
Pedal power also have results on their site (linked to the Ractec database) but it is often broken and they only show PPA members.
