"true riding ability"  you mean "climbin ability" on the cobra and rollercoaster. staying in the right place and upright in big bunches when the pace hots up, especially in the gutter - now thats something to learn how to do properly.

Agreed. I only mentioned the cobra and rollercoaster as there there is less opportunity to sit in the middle of the bunch for the whole race. For most of us who don't ride in a racing category, there is less emphasis on strategy in the race.
