Amazing - TSS almost exactly the same, but my IF = 0.82 and yours was 0.78 - come on BikeMax, did you really try as hard as you could Evil%20Smile

i can see how a person can play all day long with these stats!

are there many variables involved in power stats,  or is it generally that if X & Y complete the same distance over the same time (all external factors such as temp & wind being equal) they have produced exactly the same average watts for the duration irrespective of factors such as their body weight or fitness level?

(BM - max HR for entire race seems a bit high - 244 bpm  - see there is also a 204 in the second hour?)

Generally they would have produced the same watts/kg - body mass has a huge effect especially when the road tilts upwards (just ask fattie).

When the road is flat the aerodynamic drag plays more of a part.  So, between BikeMax and myself, I would have to produce more watts to ride the same time as him due to me being heavier and taller.

Another interesting point is that BikeMax's distance and mine are almost identical.  My time is 5:32 and not 5:35 as per WinningTime, Bikemax was even harder done by - 6:05 whereas WinningTime gives 6:11!!

Ignore my HR - I had no strap on (must have picked up a team mates or some interference)

Just comparing the overall picture and bear in mind that I've never used a PM before, so my laymans interpretation may be way off the mark.

- Bruce's max "crank torque" was virtually 100% more than BM's.
- Bruce's max power output was almost 19% more than BM, whilst the ave was almost 25%

Yet looking at cadence,

- BM's max cadence was 16% higher that Bruces, whilst the ave was slightly under 9%.

As a layman, what the above tell me was the Bruce was spinning less but in a bigger gear.

Correct or codswallop ?

The numbers won't lie, so I'd say you are correct.  I found myself still on the big ring 2/3 of the way up Tradouws.

Bikemax average watts/kg = 3.13
Bruce average watts/kg = 3.57

Hence I rode a faster time, but it shows you how much effort it takes to increase speed each km/h.

how is the intensity factor calculated - it would appear that this is what you have to look at to see how hard a ride was (or not).

should be far more accurate than ave. HR.

TSS = Training Stress Score - i.e. how much stress your body went through.
VI = Variability Index - i.e. how variable/constant power output was.

Bikemax and I were discussing how TSS accumulates for slower riders and this is a good case in point.  Windbreaker had a higher TSS than Bikemax or myself because he was on the bike for a lot longer.  So Windbreaker would require more recovery than I would.

Unless he has his PT stop recording when speed & power not detected - possibly stopped for a puncture / water etc?
