We have a DryBuddi clothes dryer thing which uses less energy than tumbledryer. It is great for delicate clothes but we still use the trusty old Defy for some of the larger things like towels.
I love to ride fast. That is why I hate uphills.

May I interrupt?

In SA, what the hell do you need a tumble drier for?
There is evil! It's actual, like cement... I can't believe it. I can't stand it. Evil is not a view... it's an ingredient in us. In the world. Poured over us, filtering into our bodies, minds, hearts, into the pavement itself.Posted Image

Not everybody has a place outside to hang their clothes, and/or having a small apartment covered in drying clothes is not to everybody's taste?

Ok, let me re-phrase: Those of you, OP included, who have tumble driers, why do you? Is it because you don't have a drying area, or because is convenient?

We do hang clothes outside weather permitting but with 2 young kids a tumble dryer is convenient during winter months.

I have two young kids. Had em since they was babies. Funny that, anyway, what do you need a tumble drier for?

Shame. Highveld summer? Rains even more than you can imagine.

Small apartment - buy a condenser dryer - apartment will be a lot less humid when using the thing, and smell a lot less like a clothes dryer - LG and Samsung make some nice 7+kg ones.

Makes for convienient clothes drying for sure, and costs less to run than underfloor heating.

Yes. Energy efficient and tumble drier belong together like fire and ice. You don't get one. No matter what the marketers say.

Sure, I'd get a second clothes horse, or wash line. Easy.

Next?

Its convenient mostly,..... and the clothes stay fluffier. :)

Plus its so dusty now with these winds the clothes will probably be dustier after drying outside than when they were washed. Actually they also burnt the grass across the road from us a few days ago and I can still see black grass settling on my pool. Imagine clothes outside drying.

........but on the other hand I agree, I have never heard of an energy efficient tumble dryer, they may exist but I imagine the savings in energy will be minimal, tumble dryers operate at a certain temp. so anytime you need to heat something to that temp. you need to consume energy, I cant see a way around that part, but I guess you can get better more energy efficient motors, less turning friction etc, so maybe small savings there, but dont know if it would be noticeable in your electricity bill.
I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather......not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car!.

We stay close to a school and with all the soccer moms driving on the dirt road right up to class room steps ( kids these days dare not walk further than 20 m) I am considering a dryer. Leaving the washing while these aunties drive up a dust storm outside, leaves the washing dirty again.
Most dryers are marked a+ for energy efficiency.
