In SA, what the hell do you need a tumble drier for?

Ok, let me re-phrase: Those of you, OP included, who have tumble driers, why do you? Is it because you don't have a drying area, or because is convenient?

Makes for convienient clothes drying for sure, and costs less to run than underfloor heating.

Yes. Energy efficient and tumble drier belong together like fire and ice. You don't get one. No matter what the marketers say.

Sure, I'd get a second clothes horse, or wash line. Easy.

Plus its so dusty now with these winds the clothes will probably be dustier after drying outside than when they were washed. Actually they also burnt the grass across the road from us a few days ago and I can still see black grass settling on my pool. Imagine clothes outside drying.
........but on the other hand I agree, I have never heard of an energy efficient tumble dryer, they may exist but I imagine the savings in energy will be minimal, tumble dryers operate at a certain temp. so anytime you need to heat something to that temp. you need to consume energy, I cant see a way around that part, but I guess you can get better more energy efficient motors, less turning friction etc, so maybe small savings there, but dont know if it would be noticeable in your electricity bill.
