It's easy. Just avoid the multiple potholes that don't get called out, dodge the cars that want to kill you from the front, get out of the way of the trucks that want to kill you from behind, hope that the marshals showing you which way to turn in the township are actually there, jump over the multiple uncovered railway lines, don't go over the narrow finish with more than one cyclist near you, and you will be fine.

Meh... I'm sure I had to paint my cat on Thursday!
...coz pink bikes go faster...

I'm with MtbBarbie on this one, this race just sounds more and more awesome after every post...  well at least if crashing into a pothole and then getting hit by an oncoming car is your thing...

Will just have to go see what it's all about and try and stay upright (and try not to have a heart attack within the first 10kms.)

Wow, you guys are doing a good job of amping me up for my first road race

Like the idea of taking to the dirt, might try that
Remember, road bike can bunny hop as well ;)

I am actually super amped for the race, ready to give it horns (or at least try to) at the first race of the season. I will just go practice my bunny hops this weekend.

You forgot not hitting any of the fun riders from behind when you are on the last 15km ;-)

It's not that bad man............Out and back route.  Flat except for the little climb at the turn around point.
The bunches are not that big so you can manouver if you have to.  I have never seen a crash in that race in my bunch.  Lucky?  I suppose yes.
But point being, there are more crashes in the Argus and the 94.7 than in this race.

Just don't do stupid stuff.

I did this race some years ago and managed the fastest average speed I have ever done ie 33km/hr.I wish I could average anywhere near that time these days-age and 2 spinal fusions does that to one.
My life is like a cycling race, hopefully it has no punctures !

so i'll be safe, right behind spinnekop.

true, cant recall seeing any crashes, only hear about them.
hav'nt done it in a few years, is the finish still just inside the parking area.
that makes sprinting for second last place interesting (thats me and 1hill)
MINI is crap.

They say "you are what you eat", which is strange
because I don't recall eating a '4king awesome"

"The road was fixed last year and the condition this year is very good. On the full distance there are only 5 potholes and we have been assured that the tar will be fixed before the race. There is one bit that covers about 100 metres on both out and back loop which will not be fixed. but we will sweep it clear of loose stones.

Your buddies can still enter, but will have to pay the R50 penalty for late entry. It is for Hospice, if you can convince them.

Licence riders can collect numbers on race day from 5AM."

from Anton the organiser

@Trubie, you still busy with secret training, a.k.a. base building
@CycleWizz, there are no real hills here, so your chain'll be fine
@Andyr249, should be an easy spin after the mountains of your last 'real' ride!

Anybody else on here doing any cycling?

Afraid I wont be there no. Nothing secret, but very sparse training yes.
Adopted a new rest is best training strategy
Riding in a fast group hurts, no getting around it. If you're the type of cyclist who trains, take advantage of the opportunity to hammer. Work hard and suffer, even if you get dropped. Alison Dunlap
