SASCOC has a dream, and that is 12 medals at the 2012 games. quite an increase from the solitary silver last time round.

Where could they come from?

Pool:
cameron van den burgh - maybe 2 in breast stroke
chad le clos - going shotgun approach with so many events, maybe 1 will stick

track/field:
sunnette viljoen - top ranked javelin - 1
caster semenya - will never know what they did to dial her back to even terms, but times are good enough for a shout - 1

1 of these could come off
khotso mokoena - long jump
lj van zyl -  hurdles
4x400m relay(although none of them qualified as individuals, so sounds unlikely)

there's a canoeist briggite hartley and richard murray in triathlon who seem to be hitting form but is probably out of his depth at this age. let's take a flyer for 1 surprise here.

and then i suppose it's the cyclists. - 2
skitzo could be in as it's basically a lottery in the bmx
and burry is an actual contender for a medal.

ok, that's pushing it. total 9 realistic chances. who have I missed?

bikefun!

12 is just a dream. They know it won't happen. 6 is the more realistic target and 4 would be regarded as success. If I remember correctly from an article a while back.

Yeah, I seem to remember Sam backtracking a bit and saying possibly 12 from both the Olympics and the Paralympics.

If the 4x400 relay gets it right, sascoc will count that as 4 medals.

It's R400 000 for gold medal for athlete and R100 000 to the coach.
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Yeah, and I believe the first thing he's gonna buy with it is an Arsenal shirt with Van Persie's name on it.

Get the whole team to ride the Argus, I'm sure it is realistic to expect 12 medals then, maybe even more.

in the marathon we've got Irvette van Blerk. Another wild card but she stands a good chance

And for breaking the WR ?
Surely there must be a few $$ for achieving this.

Another gold in the pool! Le Clos pipped Phelps. Well done, young man! You've done your country proud.

High praise from Phelps: “He got his hand on the wall first. I’ve been able to get to know him over the last year and he is a very, very good competitor. He’s a very hard-working kid, a very hungry kid and, y’know, what do you say? He got his hand on the wall first.”

Just on Phelps...gained new respect for him last night, always thought he was a tjop and an arrogant one at it...when they took pictures on the podium he told Chad to hold up his gold.

The commentators I could have moered with a snoek though, saying how "lucky" Chad was and that Phelps lost it with a rookie mistake. Give credit man.
