Hi all,

I have my next crazy idea that I want to do. I want to cycle from JHB to Hoedspruit in 3 days. My only problem is that I need a route from JHB to Belfast / Dullstroom that doesnt go on the highway. Any ideas?

From Belfast on its rolling pain to Origstad then a pass then flat from the bottom of Strydom Pass.

From Hoedspruit, I am hoping to have a change of bike (road to mtb) and ride into the conservancy I want to visit. My theory: been going to the reserve since a kid and well, would be cool to cycle there.

Haha Joe thanks but thats extra weight. Gonna do this on the roadie bike not the tourer this time.

The old/alternative route to Witbank/Middelburg. Bridge between Middelburg and Witbank is washed away, although a farmer has made a detour which can be used for a nominal fee. Should be easy to get to Dullstroom from M/burg...

You can sneak out of the east rand towards Witbank/Bronkhorstspruit but I'm not sure how bad the coal mine / power station truck traffic will be. Saying that it does skirt around the side of the power stations

So this patch would have to be done really early then and maybe with a vehicle behind us (know some dudes on motorbikes).
