Sad story - Hope he has a good recovery

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretoria - A 12-year-old Pretoria boy is fighting for his life after he rushed into a burning house to save his new bicycle.

Beeld reported that Michael van Vuuren sustained 82% burn wounds and was on a ventilator after the wooden house in which he lived with his parents in the back yard of another house in Silverton,  Pretoria, caught fire.

Michael’s mom, Rina van Vuuren, woke up on Sunday morning and saw flames in the house.

She carried Michael outside and went back to get her husband Johan, who had had a stroke a few years ago.

But Michael ran back to get the new bicycle his sister had given him for his birthday. His mother again ran back to rescue him and kept him awake until emergency services arrived.

“When I was with him (on Sunday) at the hospital, he could breathe by himself and he told me: ‘I’m going to get better, mom, I’m coming home quickly’.

“He is a real little fighter, he lets nothing and no one hold him back.”

But his condition has deteriorated since then and he was again placed on a ventilator. Doctors said he was in a critical condition.

The family lost everything in the fire.

Shame, man, poor kid.

Could hubbers do something to get this kid a new bike?

Come now master of the webs.

How do we find out who this kid is and how we can help with a new bike ?

edit: just read the article, and his name is mentioned. Do you have powers to get us to be able to make contact with the family ?
I'm a guy who believes in Christianity. But I'm here to learn about cycling. PM me if you wanna know about my faith.

I think we'll have to wait until he is well enough to ride.  It could take a while :(

EDIT: But, the family lost everything.  I'm sure hubbers can help with contributions other than the bike too?

Count me in, read the story this morning, so, so sad. When I was that age all that counted in my life was my green Raleigh racer, so I undersatnd his actions.

Lets start a fund and present the boytjie with a bike when he's healed.

count me in for R500 at this stage, I'll come up with more closer to the time

I can help with parts for sure. (I only have large frames at the moment)

All we need is the frame, have pretty much everything else. Anyone have a S or XS MTB frame?
