We used contour cameras at whistler, it's a lot sleeker than the gopro and the video quality is just as good. There is also Drift camera which have the built in displays and also come with 1080hd recording.

i have seen the Oregon range at Cape Union Mart & Due South - the ATC9k and ATC mini looks good.
They also have a cheaper range - ATC3k & ATC5k.
They are all available on Action cameras web site except the ATC Mini.

Out of all the options I think the Contour+ is the only one that comes close to the HD2... but it's 500 Ronds more.

Some big names use Contour too. I know it's a sponsorship thing... but Rachel Atherton, Cam Zink...

What I like about the contour is that you can run it without the waterproof casing and it's still water tight. Only if you're diving/surfing with it do you need the full case.

All that said... I'm a GoPro owner and think it's amazing!

I have a Drift 170 HD camera for the motorbike.  Hate the thing.  I should have gotten the real deal - The GoPro camera.

http://www.actioncam...Stealth 280.jpg

Problem... I drowned on in Mozambique while snorkelling due to a waterproof pouch that leaked.

The remote did not work from day one and even though its been back to Action Camera, no action was taken to repair the device.

The flooded camera was replaced, but now I will never get the video back that I missed while in Moz.  I mean I could have gotten some stunning footage while drifting along a coral reef.  And sad thing is, in 2 years nothing will be left of that coral.  So I will never get that memories back.  And that is the sad part!

Do yourself a favour and watch Strength in Numbers. Notice just how much camera shake there is and just how little POV they use. As far as I know it was the first Anthill film they were sponsored by Contour.

Editing... that's my weak point. Tons of video footage. Too lazy to edit, or learn to edit with anything besides Windows Movie Maker (even though I own Adobe Master Suite with Premiere).

I noticed at the Knysna MTB event that there is another make called Ion, they looked good but did not have the time to ask any further information about them.

I actually bought an ION camera at the Knysna festival.Whilst I have not got to use it yet there are a numbers of features I like, that is,you can turn the camera in almost any direction you like,to start filming or to take a photo you only push one button,it is totally waterproof so you don't need to still buy the "cover" as with the GoPro, etc.

There are a number of upgrades coming which include WiFi for simple downloading of the footage onto your pc.

I think the official launch at Sportsman Warehouse,Cape Union Mart etc will be within a month.

The proof will be in the pudding but for now I'm satisfied.
My life is like a cycling race, hopefully it has no punctures !
