Here's the deal - I currently have Alex SupraBH rims on my bike - the front is paired to a 15mm Giant hub, and the rear to a crappy Formula hub, both with DTSwiss spokes. Both the rear rim and hub are on their last legs.

I have settled on a set of Nukeproof wheels as a replacement wheel set... but considering I have no issues with the front hub, I am considering the following options:

1. Buy a complete Nukeproof wheel set - flog the existing wheels or keep as backup (probably won't get much for them)

2. Buy a complete rear wheel and a front rim - have the front rim built onto my existing hub

3. Buy a rear hub and rim, and a front rim - have the both wheels built up locally by a good builder, using existing front hub

4. OR just buy 2 hubs and 2 rims and have the whole wheelset built here

I worked it out, and option 4 is a about R300 odd more than option 1, taking into account labour and spokes.

So I'm wondering if it's worth it to have the wheels built up by a pro, rather than off the shelf? And options 2 and 3 will save me a couple of bucks too...

Also the cool thing about nukeproof hubs is that you can buy kits to convert their 20mm front hubs to 15mm, and their 12mm rear hubs to QR. I currently run 15mm / QR, but at least I know I can buy a 20mm / 12mm setup now, use the converters, and should I get a new frame or fork I have more options.

I vote option 1! New wheels, plenty of conversion combos. Spare wheelset. ;)

EDIT: oh, and in terms of option 2 saving you bucks, did you take into account that your spoke length may be different so you may have to but new ones to re-lace?

Rebuilding without replacing spokes not a good idea.

Will a Nukeproof still be nukeproof if not built by Nukeproof?????
