Came across this infographic from quiksilver. some stats about Kelly Slater compared to a few other top sports athletes.

Quite an accomplishment but surfing just doesnt have as much recognition as a sport as the more main stream options such as golf and formula 1.

He is a legend!

Also, probably the only guy that could retire, come back, and actually win again!

The most amazing thing is how much surfing has progressed since Kelly started out and that he been able to adapt and keep winning.

The guy is 40 and pulling of the most insane airs, like this:

Where's Lance
When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house.. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

Hahahaha, S11ater is a freak of nature! By far the most winning and consistent professional athlete in the history of any sport. As Goobacks has said, the sport of surfing has changed so much across his timeline and he continues to adapt and push the boundaries! What defines him above any other surfer is he's ability to do something mental and go straight into the next thing even more mad, without needing to recover first! The way he links it all together is beyond almost every other surfer!

If you follow the sport you will know that he has won titles without completing in all the events too. Just last year the waves were ALL TIME in Fiji at the same time as the JBay contest for the WCT. (World Championship Tour. You have to qualify to be in the top 35 surfers in the world to compete in this tour which has 10 events through the year) He skipped the event at JBay to go surf the best and largest waves at a spot called Cloudbreak and still won the title later in the year!!! Complete dominance!

Just to make it ridiculous, he's a fairly humble and easy going chap when he's not surfing a heat!

If you look at the list none of the athletes featured have massive question marks hanging over their heads about whether they cheated or not.
