The SpyBike won’t help you if the bike recovery turns to violence, but at least it can tell you where you can find the bike. While there is no monthly charge for the actual GPS tracking service, the SpyBike does require you to install an active SIM card so that it can send you those text messages. This also serves the secondary function of using aGPS via GSM where the primary GPS is less effective. The SpyBike product itself is £97.50, or about $152 US.

I have done testing with 2 models, one which can be installed in your bikes steerer tube with a topcap that can be placed over it to hide the actual device.

The second device looks like a regular red bicycle tail light, and also doubles up as one.
I tested both of the devices with a normal pre-paid SIM and both worked very well and does what it says.
I found that the second model is a bit more accurate reporting on the GPS positions than the first one, however both are actually very good, and will enable you to find your bike after it was stolen.

Both can be set-up in warning mode, so that the moment it is moved you will receive and SMS alarming you that movement was detected. You can then go online and track your bike.

Please let me know if there is an interest for the devices as we have it avail in SA?

The first device goes for R1850.00 and R1800 respectively.

Err ... No!
When I open my mouth (especially on forums) It's either with tongue in cheek, or to change feet :)

You need to get the insurance companies involved like with a car - insure bike and get a free tracking device (24 month contract)
