Are they for real or is it just a waste of time and money?
Been for 5 sessions already for neck and lower back and the problems still exist.
Have been told they work on your subcontious aswell?
Dont know if I must go back for more or not.
What is some of your experiences

All depends on who you go to. I broke my neck in school years ago, Suffered for a long time, started seeing a Chiro, they just fk'd me up more, so I stopped. Then after a major wipeout in Tokai I tore my scapular. Dr recommended I see a Physio and a Chiro. I went to the Physio for a while. Still had issues with my neck and Physio said to see a Chiro.....as you can imagine.....a little hesitant.
A friend gave me the details of someone that is a cyclist and really good, so gave him a try. His attitude is 3 sessions should show results.
PM if you want his details.
Oh by the way....my neck and scapular are sorted!

I have a great Chiro up here in Ptown. He did his thesis on cycling injuries (or something to that effect) and really knows his stuff. He even fixed my riding partner's ITB.

Bottom line: if he knows what he's doing, he can work magic. I had massive lower back pain on the bike, now it's all sorted. I'm there every three months for an alignment. No back problems.

PM me for details.

Depends what you have. If it's just muscle tension that is staying there, it may be from another source (such as sitting badly / typing all day long) that no amount of chiro work will permanently fix. It will remedy the symptoms (neck / back pain) for a while, but if you carry on doing the things you're doing it will always come back.

If it's just from a simple tweak (dance floor shenannigans let you down) then it shoudl take a few sessions depending on the severity of the tweak.

For my wife, for example, chiro is more of a maintenance thing as she plays provincial squash, so her back is thrown out most of the time. Chiro relieves some of the stress, but the source of the stress still remains. If she stopped squash, she'd probably stop goign to the chiro. But until such time, she will need the maintenance that the chiro offers, but the pain will carry on recurring.

I had chronic neck spasms and tried the chiro route. Went for about 8 sessions, and after each one the pain would subside, but return within a day or two.

Eventually, out of desperation, I went to the emergeny unit at a hospital and got a cortesone injection. Problem solved within about 6 hours, and I've not had any problems since.

It seems that I might have the same problem because for 3 to 4 days I am fine and then pain return to neck and back. Did they injected a specifiec musle?

Remember that what the chiro do mostly involves your spine. If your muscles are the problem, then no amount of chiro work will solve it unless they also solve the muscle issue. The muscles will just pull your neck / back out of alignment.

My chiro also do dry-needling if he finds any musle spasms. But a physio is better qualified to solve these muscle / fascia issues.
They work hand-in-hand. No use solving the one problem and not the other

PM me is you want his number (Durbanville)

It'll be cool to hear a chiro's view here on this thread...

I prefer to see a physio as they would focus on the underlying problem. I know quite a few people with various aches and pains that prefer ruk-n-pluk treatment, but they always seem to be back for more in a few weeks.

After my shoulder dislocation I went the physio route and now have 99.5% of my shoulder operation back. It took 10 sessions and I had to be disciplined to do my shoulder drills, but it worked for me.

I used to suffer badly with lower back issues.  A Voltaren shot every 3 months or so would sort me out.  A GP friend then referred me to a Chiro, who sorted me out properly.

Combination of alignment, attention to ergonomics, and correct stretching has fixed it permanently.  As pietas says, it's all related.  I was lucky to find a doc who takes care of all of the components, and taught me how how to take care of myself.  Have not been for a treatment in at least a year, touch wood, no issues.

Armstrong reckoned their chiro was the most important member of the support team during his years riding TDF.
