hi guys

finally building up my SC Tallboy C, what do you think of the following:

SRAM x0 or mix of XT and XTR?

SID XX fork or Fox 100 RLC ?

SRAM Xo groupset looks nice but i have seen mixed reviews on cranks and brakes

SID XX is superlight but fox appears top notch

rest: hope /ztr arch wheels, truativ noir components

any advice?

I have both a Fox FIT 29er fork and a RockShox - the Fox has given me loads of grief (but the issues seem specific to the FIT one - not sure if that's what you're after)

I also have both SRAM XX and XTR on my bikes - no comparison IMO - XTR all the way! No issues from them, whereas the SRAM drives me up the wall

As far as brakes go, similar story. Don't like the feeling of the SRAM at all, Shimano is better but Formula is tops

Truvativ Noir components are OK but there are lighter stuff out there for the same price

Hope Arch combo - good choice. Personally like the DT Swiss hubs better, and depending on your weight and riding style the Crest rims are very solid but a bit lighter

Groupset is very much personal prefrence. Personaly I prefer the solid click ok XTR over XO. As for brakes, shimano is very reliable so I'd go with that. Fox or roch shox, mmm... Once again personal choice, fox is high maintainance but is great, if and only if it's set up right, if you've got messed up settings it doesn't feel good.

Originally fitted Fox RLC 100mm, regretted it, have now replaced it with Talas Terralogic, now have adjustable 100 - 120mm travel.
Mavic C29 wheels - bombproof,
X0 2x10 spd - found 39/26 option to work best,
Formula The One brakes 180 mm rotors - awesome,
Reverb telescopic seatpost - perhaps overkill for gauteng but awesome for Cape trials,
Selle Italia gel saddle,
#word of advice fit either Shadowplus(Shimano) or type 2(Sram) rear derailer as it has tendency tosometimes drop chain over rocky terrain - these derrailleurs have a clutch meganism to keep chain taut.

Good luck and happy save miles

Forgot to add - go for through axle fork option as it makes for stiffer front.

Bought my TB built up with XTR, fox and the ZTR Crests. The only small thing was that the original owner (I got it 2nd hand) swapped the XTR brake levers for XT as these have bite point adjustment. My comments:

XTR is the shizzle. As mentioned this is personal preference tho.

The RP23 shock is great. The propedal with threshold rides 95% as well as a Spez brain. Can't comment on the fork apart from it being quite plush. Time will tell...

ZTR crests... Eish... I suspect the back wheel was badly built as I have already had it re-trued to try to get rid of play. I am busy replacing the bearing in the hub as the 2 smaller ones seemed a bit stuffed. Not a good start...

In that case I would suggest:
XTR crankset
XTR shifters
XT brakes
XT derailleurs
XT cassette and chain

My 10 grand's worth :-)
