I've been working for about 15 years now, the last 2 have been bad and the last 6 months the absolute worst.
It really feels like every day at the office is killing me (or my spirit) somehow.

I need to find a job where I'm not office bound, and I'm doing something interactive and that I enjoy. It seems thats friggin impossible these days, unless you want to earn tiny money.

Im currently in IT on the support / networking side -_-  - Ive had enough.
I started doing some marketing studies last year to get moving in another direction; should have done it years ago but I figured I was too old to go back and study

eMarketing and the like are fun, but I really dont think doing marketing for a corporate will work for me either; I cant be caged like this.

I'm in IT Soft Dev. Its not allot better. Got a HUGE public release scheduled for tomorrow. Yesterday management calls the dev team in... "oh this ABSOLUTLY HAS to go into the release as well". Never mind testing? Testing takes longer than the develpment itself. So now we have to cut down on the testing, and when the software crashes, guess who looks bad...? Management? Nope.

That's what most people tend to say- untill push comes to shove...

I was lucky enough to get a job in the Northern Cape for the past two years. Insurance halved and I live in peace and quiet (from Roodepoort). All is well, but for some the sacrifice is just too big.

THink leading time for ANY furniture, non existing service delivery, no MTB parks (although we have some leka flat nature reserves)... And the money is better than anywhere else in SA...

Comes down to trade-offs!

I gave up an opportunity to run cape audio college, even though i would have been in CPT, wouldnt have had much time to ride, because i would have been in lectures and studios all the time, even as much as i love music-NO GOOD.
Do what u want and own what u do- money is the devil and life is too short.

Shame, I feel for you. My husband and I moved to SA 8 years ago from Zim. He comes from a small town and is really struggling to get used to Johannesburg. It is a rat race and he would far prefer being on the side of the Zambezi fishing I am sure. We lost everything when we left Zim and have struggled for quite some time now. He tried having his own company but if you dont have capital (sp?) to fall back on, then the stress alone can be more depressing. He has finally found a job that is not so mentally/physically depressing for him, managing a company for an old friend of his. All good things come to those who wait!  Hope you find your gem job soon. At least you know you are not alone when it comes to hating your job.
New beginnings... ah, smell the sanity..

My favorite yet... Last week I get a call, the shortcut does not work... SO I asked the fella if he can have a look if the target still exists (perhaps he is using an old shortcut). No he tells me, I have to run him through it... SO I did: You right click on the shortcut, click on properties, and in the following window have a look at the target... No he says, he cannot right click on the shortcut.

2nd favorite, same fella, two weeks ago... His program is missing... So we click on start, scroll down, and voila, there it is... His answer... Oh, I did not know you can scroll.

This from a guy that is supposed to do software installs and basic support calls.

On the flipside we often meet people who move to Magalies from JHB/PTA as they think they will enjoy the slower pace of life, but as soon as they realise town closes at 7pm, its 35km oneway to Krugersdump, the local Co-op is useless and understocked and unless you are outdoorsy there is not much to do here so often within 18months the properties are back on the market!

Yep, IT support to the logically challenged is not so funny... I once had a guy think all of his network information was stored in his monitor... give me strength.

Now I work in sales and dislike it even more... :(

Wow, that's strength.

Haha! My new (well, 18 months) Creative Director loves to micro-manage. So he's just written my headlines for me. I'll type them up and give them back to him. Most expensive copy-typist in the world, but it gives me more time for the Hub. Perhaps this will be a record posting day?

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
