The Honda is nice, but looking dated a bit and its overpriced.
Subaru cost of ownership - R0 so far. Just get the longer maintenance plan.
Ya, the big issue I had with the BMW was the kak clearance and could only get the 2wd for the price of the Subaru.
I have since discovered that the Subaru is better than the BMW in its space, quality of finishes and its suspension.

I love the Subaru's make no mistake, but I decided on the CR-V at the end of the day, and never regret my choice.

Honda makes good reliable cars at an affordable price, its a good call
I used to drive the Accord which I chose over the BMW 318i and Merc C180 - and Id do it again.
The CRV just wasnt enough car for me

I was also on a waiting list for the Sportage, luckily I discovered the new Subaru Outback. More safety, more features, muuuch more space, better ground clearance, more luxurious interior and it drives more like a car (less body roll). I have taken it off-road plenty (not a 4x4 park obviously), and it goes really well; great traction control and AWD combo. I have whipped Toyota Hilux drivers on some off-road routes. The load space is massive for a car, yet the car doesnt feel big to drive. Even with the front seats as far back as they go there is plenty space for adults in the back without their knees touching the front seats - oh, and the rear seats recline too... :whistling:

Subaru.

How about the Nissan Quasqai? All the car tests stack the Ix35 vs the Sportage vs the Nissan.

The Nissan performs ok, but the interior is disgustingly cheap.

Problem with the Nissan is the badge on it.

I will never buy a nissan again in my life.

Worst service i have ever experienced and the only time i have ever had funny letters arriving in my post to take the vehicle in "due to defects in manufacture"

I had to take my vehicle in 3 times for different parts that could be a problem.

Subaru Forester

End of discussion. It is FAR better than the Kia or the Hyundai.

Don't get me wrong, they are all great cars which you will love and enjoy, the Subaru however is just..............better

Entry level Forester = 328k
Sportage = R262k

That's a big price difference for a vehilce of similar spec and size.

Entry level Adidas running shoe R 500
North Stars R 220

Big difference for similar spec and laces, but then again that's just me.

I think the ix35 has a longer waiting list. If I was only looking at those two models I would still buy the Sportage, for most places you need to go in SA to dive or Mtb, its fine, I bought a VW Tiguan last year and its off road is also pretty dismal, but it is fine for where most of us go - pretty much the same as the Kia I would say.

That said the Dodge Calibre is on a good special at the moment at most dealers, and before everyone say "Oh Dodge....." its actually a very nice car and drives great, has a reasonable maintenance plan 100.000kms or three years and it has a very high spec, I would say best in its price range.

Buying a new car is always stressful, but in a nice way :D because there is such a variety to choose from, back in the day we only had a choice between a Ford Cortina or a Toyota Corolla so it was easy, today there are literally hundreds of models.
Dodge, r u insane!

Go for Kia Optima gets my vote. Q3 too expensive.

If I had to choose between Ix35 v Sportage, then its the Sportage all the way

I'm not sure what you trying to say here, but if you can only afford North Stars, then why suggest you buy AdIdas ?
