For the price they are charging, not a chance.

I think it's a total rip-off.

True, but it's just like MTB stage races, or any race for that matter

Thug, maybe just read the whole article.

R1,600 (EDITED THX) includes a camping stand from Friday to Sunday and includes ALL MEALS (6 in total).

Bargain in my view.

A whole weekend for R1,200.

How much do you spend on a normal weekend at home?

That is insane! Race organisers have lost their minds.

What do you get for that? I am assuming the full package of accommodation and food?

Really very expensive. R 1600 for camping option works out to almost R 530 with one meal to run 10k night stage. Camping spots reserved but you have to supply your own equipment. Not sure this is worth it. Similar type of race at Fountains at the end of 2011 attracted a very small field.

When last did you guys check the prices of triathlon? In any case if you work it out, 65km's trial run gives you more than 12 hours of racing (in my case) so that sounds better.

You can also only enter the day race on Sat menaing R150 for 20km's.

The thing is that we get very few oppertunities to do multistage trail running in SA.

If I break it all down it seems like the following costs:-

Camping site from Friday to Sunday = R400

Race fees & food = R1,200 This includes nutrition for each race and 6 meals.

Is it really that expensive? I am used to paying R800 for a 3 hour triathlon event these days........

Is that gang rape or just acceptable ?

Haha Dangle I agree.

So lets be honest then. You at least have the option to run the day race. 20km trail run at R150 is more than acceptable.

At least we have an option. Tri doesnt give you an option. You get tied up and then raped in triathlon repeatedly.

I really feel like they are milking us, and to be honest, and in the case of the tri's ,much of the proceedings goes to the commissaires.

Look I also feel it's over-priced, but I have long wanted to do an event of this nature and there aren't options close by Gauteng besides the Fountains one. The others are all much farther and I'm sure more expensive and tougher ?

You might find that acceptable but I certainly don't and that's why I didn't enter 5150.

If you want, I'll take you on a 30k trail run in the heart of Joburg and it wont cost you a cent. If you like, you can do it twice. :)

and No, I don't spend R1 200 over a weekend.
