In all honesty I would recommend a low GI carbohydrate with a combination of the appropriate protein and fat content as a meal replacement, whereas our RECOVER is a quick releasing carbohydrate because that's whats required after a workout, so the two have totally different roles, a recovery drink is there to assist in glycogen replenishment and muscle synthesis, but a meal replacement is there to replace a meal and needs to be focused on other elements, two different roles.

Thanks! (any recommendations what?)

Personally I dont really believe in meal replacements LOL, I prefer going the natural route and eating proper wholesome foods throughout the day. There are a lot of meal replacements on the market and I have not had the time to analyse each one. I would look for something that is as natural as possible, with probably a 55-65% carb 20-30% protein 10-20%fat, nSure I have heard is quite decent, there are many, Holford also launched a range into Dischem, but if u want natural food then get in touch with me can give u some ideas for snacks ;-)

I have been using 32gi for a while with no complaints, just got tired of the flavours (could have bought the neutral version of course) and changed to Enduren which has a sugar-water taste. Your opinion of Enduren would interest me.

Your Recovery product interests me . Is it available at Dischem now?

Currently I use Pepto-Pro mixed with some Game as a recovery drink, or go for a good old chocolate milk. Pepto on its own tastes vile!

I must admit that I do brand hop bit and recently tried out a Power Bar formula, but at R 450 for the tub I won't get it again.
At the rate of consumption, I do look at price as well and 32Gi and Enduren are both well priced. Enduren comes in at R 300 for a 2kg refill bag.

I do not know Enduren well, but you need to look at the amount of protein you are getting per a serving and then price it that way. Then you can compare a little better, of course taste and functionality goes a long way. We keep ours simple. We do not used hydrolyzed protein because we are not happy with the chemical process it goes through as well as being high in MSG and sodium, its just not a natural product and we try to keep ours as natural as possible. Hope that helps all the best m

Thanks for the reply. Enduren does seem to have very little in "weird" additives and sells itself on being as close to natural as an Additive may be. I will take a look at the protein content to make a balanced assessment. I will give your Recover product a try and hope to find it at Dischem today. I would like to try it at the Knysna 300.

I just finished the Knysna 300 over the weekend and made the decision to dump all other Supplements and stick with 32GI. Why? On Day 1 and 2 I rode on Enduren. Day 1 I felt OK , but had some cramp issues in the last 15km (got lost and turned the route from 100 to 11km so the cramping might not have affected me during the Stage had I not missed a turn). Day 2 my legs were nowhere. Cramping after 70km of the 115km route and for the last 15km, both legs took turns to seize, but I rode through it. The night before Day 3 I decided to try out the 32GI and filled my bottles with it and took some powder along for the water points. The route was just under 80km, but I had done 230km up to then, plus we had 1500m of climbing to do. My legs felt great all the way through and I had no issues at all.
I must add that on Day 1 and 2 my partner was pushing the pace and we were riding an average of just under 19km/h and on Day 3 we hit just under 20km/h for the stage. That sort of pace is higher than I usually ride , but we deliberately tried to push the pace as a test of our fitness for the Epic.

Whether the 32GI helped my physiologically more than the Enduren, I can't base on facts. My mind says that 32GI helped, so I will believe that and stick to it.
I am prone to cramping at times . Any advice of what supplements I can take to counteract that? I consume up to 12 Rennies on a 100km stage, but that's fighting the cramp and not the source.

Hi all, I know some Dis-Chems have received stock and some not, the reason being is that Dis-Chem central shut down all deliveries and dispatches for a couple of days actually 6 we think, to do a stock take and so were not receiving. Some Dis-Chems did receive but we have also got a lot of independant cycling shops that stock it as well. If you cannot find it and are desperate for a tub call the office on 010590344 and we will be able to tell u who has received stock in the mean time.
all the best

Still nothing at Dis-Chem in Cape Town. Also not at Olympic Cycles.
