Ok. 2 cut a long story short. My wifes father and mother died recently. Part of the estate was a vehicle which I offered to purchase. All 5 beneficiaries including my wife accepted my offer and this has been agreed to by the lawyer handling the estate. I am in possession of the vehicle.

Now comes the issue. We cannot find the original registration papers for the vehicle. As far as we can tell the vehicle was purchased in cash and there was no bank involved. The vehicle is currently registered in Port Shepstone and I live in Randburg. As mentioned before I have possession of the vehicle.

So I need to ask does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing ? What do I have to do to get the vehicle registered in my name considering I dont have the original registration papers?

As far as I know you need to apply for re-registration at the DMV, and then you need to register it in your own name. Might be that there will be fees & penalties payable if the license is out of date, so that could be a bit of a schlep.

Go along to your friendly DMV and the guys there will help you. They're generally very helpful, as they deal with things like this on an ongoing basis.

The estate can (should, as they're selling it) a set of papers from the traffic auths. Shouldn't be TOO much of a hassle :) Good luck

A duplicate registration certificate must be drawn at Port Shepstone lic dept.It costs about R230. It'll be easy for the executor to do that. I'm sure it's not the 1st time he's come accross something like this. Perhaps ask him? Because under normal circumstances only the owner is allowed to draw a dupl reg. certificate in person.
I think, therefore I go fast

This is the right info.

I am busy with my mothers estate and this is the process we are following.
Out of the night that covers me,Black as the pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance. My head is bloody, but unbowed.Beyond this place of wrath and tearsLooms but the Horror of the shade,And yet the menace of the years,Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate,How charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate:I am the captain of my soul.
