Just be careful if looking a second hand diesel, do your homework otherwise those engines can work out costly.
If you can find someone willing to sell their old Samurai SJ, that'd be first prize!
Pajero wise I went for an iO, well priced and the engine is the petrol one of the Colt bakkies. Am over the moon with mine, good space, great offroader, perfect for daily use and the fuel economy is decent enough.
Only expense is the clutch kit stuffing out and gearbox needing a recon after a mate loaned it a bit in Dec.
i have the 2.0l io with a ride on bike carrier which works fine after putting on a bit of an extension plate to get past the spare wheel.also heard that the rack to be affixed to the spare wheel mite give problems to the door hinges.the io is perfect for me after having the corsa bakkie.
even if i do not agree with you i will fight till death for your right to disagree with me. voltaire

Go with the Suzuki - super strong and reliable, will go for ever.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Another iO driver, nice man ... yeah I also have the 2.0L one, 5 door. It's a pleasure to drive.
Did a round trip just over 2000km last year to Pietermaritzburg and back. Two louts, bikes in the car, camera gear and assorted luggage. No problem!
Also have heard about issues with hinges having the rack on the spare wheel. So far no worries though.

OK will have a look at the SWB Pajero as well.

Although not quite 5x more, twice as much is still a lot.

What I'd like to see is a comparison between the two cars in terms of environmental impact.

Although you lot of sand dune driving hunters are probably not too concerned about that.

Well my current vehicle only consumes 20% more fuel than the previous one. But for the last year or so I commute with my mtb, which reduces my carbon footprint.

And between commuting with my mtb, a recycling service, a worm farm and using rain water for garden, car wash, bike wash, I think I make up for my impact on the environment.

It is a smaller version of the pajero which came out a few years ago. Very nice vehicles, very much the same as a Suzuki Jimny, and they were available in a 3 door and 5 door version.

Awesome cars, made them up until 2005 ... Closest thing now would be something like the Terios, also a darn nice car. Although slightly underpowered.

Probably cause, like for like, entry level, new, the sx4 starts at R210,000.00, whilst the Jimny starts at R149,000.00?

I love the Suzuki Jimny, an incredibly capable little mountain goat! You wont go wrong. If space is an option, Danger Dassie mentioned the Terios. Fantastic little 4x4, also solidly reliable and light on petrol. Although not as good looking as the Jimny! Good luck with whatever choice you make!

Depends on the year model and mileage, but if you can find one or someone willing to part with theirs. Between 75-100k with a mileage of 100k- 200k odd.

N

No I haven't actually. Didn't know it had 4x4. Though yes the price is getting steep and the looks are a bit girly soccer mom for me.
Also I think it's a bit more space than I will be needing most of the time.
