I need to buy a good quality bed (matress and base) in a hurry and I have no idea where to start so I've come to ask the all-knowing Hub for help.

What are the brands to look at?
Where are the best places to get value in JHB?
Any contacts or connections?

Thanks in advance.

THe rebound is very poor. so you wont get real height when you jump on it.

Have to go with Serta and memory foam on this one. Best bet is to go to a shop(dial-a-bed's not half bad) and tell them what you think you want and how much you want to spend. They'll sort you out.

Ultimately, spend as much as you can afford - a good bed lasts for 10-15 years(working out very cheaply per day). And rather spend more now once off, then to try and save a few rand and having to buy a new bed a year or so later(been there - done that).

I went to Dial-a-bed (into the store, not online) and the guy nearly sold a Serta to me... Decided to ask around and Tafelberg Furnished (Cape Town) told me they could sell me the exact same "R8k" bed for R5k... I would not recommend Dial-a-bed! I got a Spring Air for about R8k with base which is extremely nice (a friend also bought one on my recommendation 2 weeks later and also loves it). I always say buy extra length if you can, soooo much nicer than standard length beds.

That is because the entire mattress is hot , 8C+ than a normal one.

Actually a mattress is only designed to give you 8yrs of optimal support and comfort and then starts to go down after that regardless of brand.

Your bodies needs also change every 10yrs (rule of thumb) so you would anyway replace your mattress while the optimal support is only starting to go.

BTW: I use to be a mattress salesman for both Dial-A-Bed and a large manufacturer. I can tell you all the sales tricks but also the truths about mattresses.
