Im reminded of a movie I watch recently (My big fat Greek wedding). In the one scene the bride to be, tells her greek aunt that her future husband does not eat meat.
Woman replies. "What do you mean he does not eat meat". Everyone stops and stares. Shes then replies. "Thats ok I cook lamb"

That was probably because he was Vegan and not Carnivorous...less blood, better karma they say

Fair enough but let's not forget he was just one of over 100 US athletes that the US Olympic committee covered up the tests of. And, he tested positive for ephedrine based substances which are weight loss agents. Hardly "supplementing is vegetarian diet with banned substances" as you stated.

My point was that you don't NEED meat to perform at the highest level and Carl Lewis is a great example of a vegetarian top athlete. So is Dave Scott.

Ive been vegetarian for 12 years , as long as you are not too anal about it, ie you still eat eggs / dairy , youll be fine dude. I found once i started racing higher categories a / b for example i battled with recovery a bit. So i started taking a protein drink once or twice a day depending on training intensity (an extra 22 odd grams per serving along with all the BCAA's etc... you get in recovery drinks) and all was sorted.

Biogen do one called iso whey - that stuff is is the bizness.

Try stay away from processed stuff like too much cheese , and eat lots of green veg... the biggest challenge is variety and obviously the convenience factor (your options will be limited at restaurants etc...) but think of it this way, 90% of ppl base their meals around the big 5 (Lamb,Pork,Beef,Fish,Chicken) , yet there are 3000+ other things you can eat to get the same nutrition as well.

Hit the google, There's a a lot of info out there.

32Gi supplements are suitable for Vegansand have no animal based products in them and they are one of the best I have used, easy to digest and taste great.
Beware of the hidden fish oils and animal based stabilizers get to know your E numbers. We actually have no clue as to what we are eating if we don’t know the E numbers it’s actually quite scary!

Slight off topic but: -

The Impact of Animal Farming on global warming.

The world is currently raising over 50 billion farmed animals for slaughter each year. This has a major impact on global warming. This is contributing significantly to the destruction of tropical rainforests and other valuable habitats.

Because of its high degree of inefficiency compared to plant protein production, animal agriculture is disproportionately depleting the planet’s dwindling reserves of fresh water, land, fuel, and other resources,” say Tammy Kelly. (I think from Fry's)

Here are some scientific facts:
  • At least half of all the greenhouse gases are due to livestock production.
  • If all Americans ate no meat, chicken or fish for just one day a week, this would result in the same carbon savings as taking 19,2 million cars off the road in the USA for an entire year. The equivalent saving would be 46 million return flights from New York to Los Angeles.
  • It requires 500 times as much land to produce 1kg of beef as it does to produce 1kg of vegetables.
  • It takes 250 litres of water to produce 1kg of wheat, and 25 000 litres of water to produce 1kg of meat.
  • Cows, pigs and sheep bread for human consumption discharge millions of tons of methane, a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
  • Livestock accounts for about 18% of greenhouse gases, more than all the world’s transportation systems including cars.

Vegetarians unite - one day we'll rule the world.
I don't give a damn for a person that stares at a red traffic light when it is perfectly safe to proceed.

It also sh1ts on our atmosphere and land resources. When the Chinese make enough money to eat meat (which they traditionally haven't been able to afford that much), we'll have another 1.5 or so billion people who need cows to eat, so this issue is just getting started.

There are lots of awesome recipes and vegatarian ideas, you don't need to add extra dairy and eggs to the mix nor do you have to add shed loads of vitamins either. You can get the same amount of protein from veggies than from meat, and its easier for your body to digest and use.

Perfect is the enemy of good enough. You can do a lot to reduce your impact without either sitting in a cave eating fruit that fell off a tree, or just throwing your hands up and saying "anything goes".

Very interesting graphic, though - it's very hard to gauge whether something is has a net benefit or not!
