Hello Guys(not sure about girls here),

Could someone please recommend, assist with a contact in Cape Town( UCT area) so that I can send my son there with his Nissan1400 bakkie. The timing needs to be set, he drove it from Pretoria, but now it pings and he went to a garage to assist...............well first they say he needs a new carburetor (BS, I fitted a genuine Nissan Carb about two weeks ago at great expense R2800-00),also the garage did attempt to set it,well now the vehicle splutters, farts, run hot and does not want to idle at all GRRrrrrrrrr.( I think the new age machanics does not know what point, condensor and a distrubutor is ?) All it needs is 2 - 3deg TDC and a 'set'.

Someone pretty please help, otherwise I need to get on a aircraft to go and do it myself........and that for a silly thing like this.

Thank you ( again )

Gustav

Not close to UCT, but Killarney. Contact Greg at 082 802 1316. He will be able to assist, without costing you a bundle.

Yes it does thanks, but my son has got two thumbs on each hands and can't get the timing set( I acually try to show and let him try it here in Pretoria before he left, eish I suppose it's one of those things) I went to a "spoeg en plak school" and "forstand" these enginse a bit better than him :-)

Simple fix would be to adjust the mixture to be a bit richer if the ting needs more fuel. Easier fix than just plugging a bigger jet in there.

Ah, how I miss the days of twiddling with a simple carb/distributor engine to get it purring just right... A simple nr 10 spanner, a couple of screwdrivers and a.steady hand go well with a good ear to set the idle and mixture.

That, and a wire brush for the plugs and you're a for away.
