Just dont listen to Swissvan when he starts babbling about wetsuits again. Learn to swim without one. Iit is the best way from the start!

I'd rather babble than bleat...
Be a real triathlete and swim naked....
Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional...go ride your bike.

does anyone know if the dam / quarry here at tygervalley waterfront is open for swimming? It looks damn cold and may not be the cleannest but is nice and close

I don't think you can swim there. Are you specifically looking for open water swimming, because there's a group swimming out of Bellville pool M-F. If you want to come check it out sometime, I can just talk to the coach and I'm very certain that she'll let you join in a couple of times.
Btw, I haven't had a chance to send an e-mail off about Ashanti Dam, will do so now. This work thing has been getting in the way of hubbing!

Thanks. If you could send me the info on the bellville group and the ashanti dam I'd really appreciate that.

I read this blog with interest the other day as I know the swim leg is always the most daunting for most newcomers. I know it was for me and my mates.

Something Ive been thinking about (dont know what the legal implications are). What about that lagoon / canal by Wood Bridge Island in Milnerton.

Possible but that water just looks so dodgy and unhealthy

have been back at the gym now for 3 weeks and have been swiming twice of three times a week. Just doing freestyle and after last night I'm quite chuffed with my progress. Did about 900m last night in sets of 50m, 75 and 100m. No recorded breaking stuff but considering I haven't done anything for a long time I was pretty happy. Am slowing working it up to just sets of 100m and then take it longer
