Yes. If you follow the directions. Just gets expensive.

Have used it for cycling and mountaineering. It works.

And the follow on question...is it recommended for long endurance races or only short high intensity efforts?

If it motivates you to train at higher intensity and to rest adequately then it works.

Both my wife and I got terrible headaches when using it,my cycling partner uses it.

Seemed to buffer lactic acid for me when I stacked it over a number of days. Can't say my VO2Max fared any better or worse though. Now I just take FiT anti-lac's for the same effect and much less cash.
I did everything by the seat of my pants. That's why I got hurt so much.
