A cyclist was knocked down in Sunninghill yesterday evening. Not sure of the details but he suffered extensive injuries and is currently in intensive care at Sunninhhill Hospital. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.

This is a father of a mate of mine. Jan Henning Snr. Serious injuries.

From the primary scans he has a broken left leg (ankle and femur), he has broken ribs (3 left, 2 right), he has a broken jaw, there are a few cracked vertebrae in the neck, he lost a lot of blood because he is on Warfarin, so they pumped him full of blood and adrenalin last night. He had a full body x-ray, and a Cat scan last night, there is bleeding on the brain. He is going for another Cat scan this morning.

Not cool. If anyone knows further details of the incident let me know

I drove past this accident last night about 5 or less minutes after it happened. This guy looked extremely badly hurt.

Why was he cycling so late? I would also like to know how he ended up in the middle of the road, along with the car that seemed to have knocked him. I think it was an SUV too.

Road users are very aggressive at the moment. Might have something to do with the new year, etc. I have had a "run in" with a few motor vehicles when out running

Was the driver held, questioned and, possibly, held liable for the smash?
Any info...

Well if it was after dark, as it would seem, I guess the blame is not automatically going to go the way of the driver... Because I am not much for early monrings I have on a couple of occasions ended up a few kays from home as the sun goes down - not a good feeling even with led's flashing...

Not 100% sure of the name but its the steep hill in Sunninghill that leads up to a T Junction at Maxwell Drive. You know, the T-Junction where you take a right to get to Sunninghill Village. Just on that slight left bend before the road straightens out.

know exactly where you mean - VERY wide road with a nice wide shoulder... but cars do fly up there at times... :(

Lets hope he heals quickly !!

Roadies and MTB guys please be wary and cautious of the cars, they are less inclined to give way and they dont notice us cycling !

Glad to hear that he is ok and made it hospital last night! I feared he might have been killed. When I drove past he wasn't moving.

My thoughts, best wishes and prayers go out to him and his family!
