I'm not too hung up on Spec's - just looking for best bang for your buck.
Looking for a hardtail 29'er under R9k. Mainly do weekend warrior type stuff but do venture onto the road now and then - hence the preference for the bigger wheels. I've considered the GT Karakoram - but no stock. Also looked at the Scott Scale Team - but apart from the Shock they are pretty much the same spec. But the Scott was about a grand more expensive (albiet that was last year around November - haven't checked recently).

My current 26'er is an entry level bike from 2005 and weighs more than 14kg's - so 13.3 KG's is lite ;)
Feel free to throw out some suggestions - as long as the bike is readily available. Suggesting a great bike that is nowhere to be found helps me nought. :D

Quite honestly, I think if you save a bit more and look at the Momsen 329 I think. It's R9800 or so and practically unbeatable value for money at that price.

The new Scale 29er series has been updated with more models, think they start at R8k now, I know of a couple of shops in Gauteng that have Karakorams, ask your GT dealer to find out if all the bike shops have bought them or some are on consignment, the GT Karakoram is great value for money

Why not look at 2nd-hand, you get a lot more for your money

I have a Silverback so nothing against them but this does not look like a good deal to me. Last I looked at my LBS you get a 2011 Ventura for less than that - XT RD etc, and lighter. Possible out of stock now.

Look at Solomans web site they have similar priced Fuji bikes with XT/SLX group sets.

Got burned once with a 2nd hand bike - so not overly keen again. But I have had 1 eye on the classifides. Not too many 29'ers in my CT, in my size, in my price range going though.
As you may have guessed I'm pretty much a newbie so don't know all the tell tale signs of a well kept vs dud 2nd hand bike. So for peace of mind I don't mind paying the extra 20% for a new bike.

Yeah, think your best bet is to contact Momsen directly.
Either way I think you can get a really good deal on a couple of brands really, at the 9k mark it's one of the more competitive areas for 29rs. So there plenty good options out there, Momsen, Scott, Merida, Silverback etc ...
