like nokia, polar is well behind the curve on this product...rather check out the garmin 910xt

at least polar has a functional OS.

what's your beef to make that horrible analogy:?

that's what I'm waiting for.
What were you waiting for.
Some baseless shoot from the hip comment on the internet ?
Also comparing a heart monitor to a cellphone  it's not like it will be used for instant messaging or Whatsapp or that Siri will make your run more comfortable.
I think you had your heart set on a Garmin when you created this topic, you just needed someone to give you that nudge ;)

Not in the slightest.

I have an open mind and have used Polar products for years.

Not a forgone conclusion by a long shot.

both nokia and polar are Finnish companies....both were leaders in their fields and technology leaders with the best products....both are now 3 years behind the competitors

Do you really think polar is 3 yrs behind garmin? The garmin 910xt looks remarkably like the old polars - 625 and 710...

I'd say go with the RCX5 GPS. The RCX5 bike might seem right, but it only offers a speed sensor. Rather get the GPS (which will give speed as well, along with pretty little google maps overlays) and buy a cadence/speed sensor later on.

Will be a bit pricey the GPS package, but i think it offers the most bang4buck.

Thanks... given me something to think about. heres a final twist though - he is more a gym guy ie not cycling or training outdoors - you think that the GPS is worth it in that sense? And if i were to get 1 of the other model, can the accessories upgrade the unit to a GPS model or not?

gym only guy? he should get out more, honestly .. unless.... erm. never mind :P

just get the plain RCX5 then. he can, shuold he decide to vary his activities more, always buy the accessories, ie GPS unit, speed, cadence sensors etc.

There seems to be a few problems with the Garmin 910xt:

Plus, you cannot use the Garmins for HRM when swimming as the ANT+ doesn't work under water...
