I see Polar have brought out a new top of the range multisport watch.

Does anyone have one?

If so, what is it like ? are you happy with it and who stocks it?

Have held and looked at it in real life and yes it's rather cool IMO...

Here's a test on DC Rainmakers blog

sportsmanswarehouse has it, and so does CRC ;)

I've had mine for a few months now. Awesome watch. Using it in combination with the G5 GPS unit, HRM unit, and speed and cadence sensors on the bike. User replaceable battery? yay, polar got it right this time. same for the HRM.
GPS unit works very very well, and syncs pretty quickly, about 1min. Easily charged via USB and holds it's charge for a few days including usage. Recharges very quickly.

Havent used it under trisport conditions, but it does work in the pool.

I just got this watch for Christmas and so far so good, granted i have not tested/played with it that much yet.

Only problem so far is that polarpersonaltrainer only has one type of training program t this stage.

Been using one since August.
Best Polar unit I have ever used, for multi sport you simply pause, switch to the next activity and restart.

Have had this watch for a couple months now. Got to say probably the best Multi-sport watch on the market and dead accurate. The new GPS sensor is much smaller than the old polar GPS sensor and holds battery life much longer +/- 20 hours while on. Used mine while in Mauritius this year (running only) and never had to recharge the GPS the whole time I was there. This watch is very fashionable and has a very large flat screen but some how does not look big on your arm. Therefore, you can wear this watch all day and not just when you train. Have had numerous people (athletes and non-athletes alike) asking me where I got the watch so that's gotta say something for the styling. Best watch on the market right now and super easy to switch between sports while on the move.
Can be found at the Sweat Shop in Sandton, Fourways, and Claremont. Only negative about this watch is that it is quite pricey but definitely worth it!!

I popped into Sportsmans whorehouse over the weekend and R1 500 for the GPS module is a blatant rip-off.

Add the unit of R3 900 and the total price is R5 400!!

Definitely not good value for money. Even DC Rainmaker agrees and recommends the Garmins.

that's ridiculous. i know they have 'experts' at this but surely you shouldn't be making a killing off your accessories as it only drives people away from your products. and yes, they are making a killing at that price.

which unit u looking at that goes for R3900??

nvm: checked their website: RCX5 bike R3895.95. f'ing rip-off.

CRC:
RCX5 bike : R2820 + 14% vat + 10% ~ R3600
RCX5 GPS: R3507 + 14% + 10% ~ R4400

meh.. massive rip off in this country, and anywhere else it seems. At the time though, the package deal was cheaper than the RS800 series, by at least a thousand clams.

btw: got mine (RCX5 bike) from CRC, but bought the GPS unit from SMWarehouse.

I got just the GPS package and it came in at just under R4000 at the Sweat Shop. So got the Watch, GPS, and heart rate monitor. Didn't get the cadence sensor or speed sensor (speed sensor is unnecessary as you have the GPS). The Garmin 310Xt is cheaper but can ONLY be worn when training.

Just checked buycycle.co.za and they have a special on the RCX5 G5 (unti, GPS, and heart rate strap) for R 3895. The only thing you will need to add is a cadence sensor.

That's a good price.

Capricorn, your price calculations are wrong. It isn't 10% on top of the landed price + 14% but rather 10% of the 14% VAT ie a total 15.4% of the landed price.

In your examples the RCX5 Bike would come in at R 3 254 & the GPS edition would be R 4 047
