When VIno crossed the line during the LBL, he was boooooed big time...
Apparently, the crowd still viewed him negatively since his doping admission.

Gotta say, when Vino went, Kolobnev was either really f*&ked, or he's a good actor. Also have to say he did look the stronger of the two up to that point.

The content of the emails is quite damning. This must be tickets for Kolobnev what with already having being nabbed for doping at the tour.

Quote

"Even my wife was not too uneasy by the fact that I was second, because you were the first,” he continued.

If he had been up against someone else, “I would have gone for the victory, glory and bonus (in my contract that I have for these classics). That day I felt stronger than ever. Now it only remains for me to wait patiently to see if all this was not vain. My only comfort is that you won and not one of the natives (Belgian riders, ed.)

“Here is a copy of all my bank information and clear it from your mail box, or my balls may be cut off.”

Vinokourov did not reply until nearly two weeks later, saying he was busy with family and preparations for the Giro. “You have done everything properly, do not worry. As you say, the Earth is round and God sees everything ... So, again thank you. You, this year you will win the championship finally, I believe. Do not worry about the agreement, I will do it.”

ja, kolobnev looks poked - it does look convincing. maybe the deal was struck earlier and not in the final kilometers. They were trying to stay away from a chase group containing Evans, Gilbert and Valverde. Vino may have looked at this early on and struck a deal at that point to secure the win.

Race fixing, like doping, is an integral part of European pro cycling culture.

Everything comes out into the light sooner or later.

I sort of liked Vino's fighting style so to read he may have been busy paying people off to make him look good is a little disconcerting to say the least.

..and yeah, those e-mails dont look great, wonder why he didnt delete it like Kolobnev suggested.....??
I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather......not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car!.

So.... Wonder if there would be a fuss if there was no payment between the 2 riders?

Pragmatic alliances between opponents are pretty commonplace. The controversial element here is the alleged proof of a cash payment, and also the tone of the email reply from Kolobnev, who is obviously trying to justify the agreement to himself.

Exazigly, a return of a favour or down payment for a future favour....yes the murky underworld of road cycling...

Maybe Kolbonev realised that Vino's days as a pro rider are...uhmm... lets say limited... and he demanded COD?
