Ride with one earpiece and throw the playlist to shuffle, so one track could be Koos Kombuis, Tiesto, Carl Craig, Placebo, Drum & Bass, Kings of Leon etc etc ... Not necessarily in that order either

I don't listen to music on the road or the mountain but on the IDT I do and it does help a lot.
Read somewhere that it shuts off the brains ability to tell you that you're hurting, my IDT sessions collaborate with that,
anyhow...
I use the genius app on Itunes and make playlists that are very heavy, that way I lose concentration of everything going on a round me and can just pedal.
Will give the list of artists tomorrow when I find my Ipod :)

oooh, and Woodkid by Iron is my pumping up song.
Saw it on the Assassins Creed Revelations trailer and it was just insane.
Use it before a race for running/rowing/cycling.

Know most of those. A fair cross-section of music. Interesting that you have Dismember along with the likes of Monster Magnet. Like both of them btw :)

Haven't been listening to anything whilst commuting...

I was under the impression that listing to music while traffic is doing 80 km/h next to you wasn't the best of ideas.

I do ride MTB on the dirt shoulders though, am I overly concerned about the risks?

I also believe the universe is not without a sense of irony, so if I do listen to music, bands like "As I lay dying" probably won't be on my playlist :P

i listen to many different genre's when i cycle.
and just the other day i found out that smashing pumpkins seems to have actually been made for cycling.
my current best would be chambermaid swing from the kranked 7 soundtrack... check it out, it is AWESOME for running cycling and even erm.....pumping.

It's the 1000's of songs I didn't put on here that also contribute... the likes of The Muffs, Rancid and Bad Religion through to old Savatage, Voivod, Prong and Celtic Frost. Hell, through in some Within Temptation for some angelic gothic stuff for the long, hard "uphills"! Diversity rocks! :)

Diversity rocks :) Definitely. I like your selection of music. It's not often you come across people with such diverse tastes in music, with a particular slant towards the heavier stuff.

Today I've listened to a bunch of stuff, and I usually always listen to full albums:
Clan of Xymox
Coldplay
Hammers of Misfortune
Saltatio Mortis
Decision to Hate
Evile
Cradle of Filth
Janes Addiction
Guano Apes
