www.cyclepowermeters.com are running a special at the moment - looks like they're clearing old stock before the 2012 models arrive. At 670 pounds with free shipping to SA this looks like the cheapest I've seen a MTB powertap.

Power2Max, a german company, (quite new) have come out with a power meter.
Comes with the rotor crank and you can choose double/triple and a ratio...
Price is pretty tame compared to the other competitors, they don't ship to SA though, so you;d need to find somebody coming from Europe, looks good though!
Their support is also really good.

As you well know some shops/distributers rarely reply to e-mails and it's a mission to get hold of them.
