Seems they going to try move Absa tonight and assess his damaged leg. I pray the little guy's suffering will come to an end ... in whatever way that means.

Sad but true...

Latest update:

"Containers have arrived and setting up container boma for ABSA... Vets have decided to move him early tomorrow morning... so as not to do the move in the dark... pictures to follow.... #aquilarhino".

Reading reports that ABSA passed away last night. :(

…and then just read this from Sapa:

Two de-horned rhino carcasses were found at a private game farm near Mokopane on Wednesday, Limpopo police said.

Farm workers in Sterkrivier found the male and female lying several metres from each other in the morning, Lt-Col Ronel Otto said.

They were apparently shot dead on Tuesday night. A case of illegal hunting was opened. The poachers were still at large.

Everyone has so much to say/They talk, talk, talk their lives away/Don’t even hesitate/Walking on down to the burial ground/It’s a very old dance with a merry old sound/Looks like its on today

So sad. Glad his suffering is over.

Our rhinos are now under attack on a daily basis and this has spiraled out of control!! This requires a concerted international effort ... and unfortunately uncorruptable human and financial resources. And to think it's all because some @hole thinks rhino horn improves his libido. Pathetic!!

Why not put guards on the rhinos?? I'd do it, voluntarily. Set traps. Nice traps. Catch and release. If they're good and still want to go after a week without water. Could have some interesting chats in that time too. :-(

There are guards at most reserves - at Aquila the guys have semi-automatic rifles, night vision, bullet proof vests and have previously stopped two attacks. Problem is very large areas to cover and Rhinos are fairly solitary shy animals, so tough to track all of them, all of the time.

Warning - images

This comment makes you think about what animals think and feel: "Absa was the first rhino reintroduced into the Cape after they were hunted out 250 years ago. He fathered 2 babies - the first born in the Cape in 250 years. One of them was killed by the poachers. His daughter stood over him for hours. (Christie Fynn, Getaway magazine)

No it wont, as long as there is a demand for horn, more Rhinos will die.

I like this comment on News24:

To quote a line from Limitless to describe what I would like to do to these poachers: "You know what we'll do? I'd cut you at waist, peel your skin up over your head and tie a knot in it. You don't die from this. You suffocate."

If horn sales were legalized, would they still be worth so much?
How to change the view that consuming powdered horn (hair, fgs) has benefits?

Ok forget the rational approach. I think I prefer this.
