I'm not a fan and glad to see him not winning it but I must admit his probably the best rider in the peloton. Surely, if you're really a fan of the sport there's no way you cant respect, admire and appreciate what these guys are doing. The booing of Contador (on the podium yesterday) has been taken a bit too far IMHO. How much more do the fans out there want to humiliate him? The "doctor dude" yesterday? The guy in the Giro dangling a piece of beef in front of the man?

I realize these okes camp out there and are pissed out of their minds by the time the peloton comes past. They don’t see what we do on the tele so there's no way they can appreciate what Berto did yesterday. He fought with all he had left to save his race, it didn’t come off and he bowed out gracefully. Like a true champion.

I reckon Berto gained a few fans this Tour for the way he conducted himself and his race, his respect for the sport and the other riders, and his love for the bike. What more do ppl want?

Booing on the road surely does not differ much from the booing on the hub here?

Most times the greats are booed because they are just that, great. Remember KP being disgracefully booed at the Wanderers a few years back and quite enjoyed his response where fielders required visas to fetch the deliveries he clubbed around joburg. Plenty others spring to mind.

No sports man should be boo-ed, ever! No matter how much you dislike the guy. Unless it is Luke Watson of course!

Ever been to Nuweland? That is probably the tdf fans picked it up.

Saying the guy is a Dopador steak muncher on the hub, is not quite the same than booing in his face.
The difference between winning and losing is most often ... not quitting!

They're still funny though, but Berto sure got his own back yesterday with his "slap" at the "doctor"

The dangling beef episode. It's incredible that there haven't been an "absolute" disaster at one of these races. Organizers also wont do anything untill something goes horribly wrong

I agree with Gummibear, well said!

For various reasons, Contador is not my favourite rider. But I still think that he is a great rider and respect him for that.

You don't have to like him but you should show some respect. Boo'ing him was just disrespectful!

Yes I respect him as a top cyclist, and I love his attacking syle on the bike and at least he brings excitement in races, but...
He is a poor sportsman and I don't respect him for what he's done (again) for cycling and that's why in my books he will always be dopador and I hope he doesn't make the podium in Paris

What would you call "horribly wrong"?

I mean in 1999 Guerini got knocked off by some twit, he still got up to win the stage though.
In 1975, Merckx got hit so hard in the stomach by a spectator, he developed kidney problems. It probably robbed him of his 6th tour win.

There's loads of examples. I still loved Bugno clouting a fan that knocked him off with the front wheel of his bike.

It's part of the drama of the sport.
