Still waiting for my local DSLAM to be upgraded so that I can get the free 4MB to 10MB upgrade. Holding out, I'm lucky in that I'm 200-300 away from the exchange.

For the older, non-streaming models there is custom firmware (http://wdlxtv.com/) which allows you to use USB hubs / DVD roms etc - just make sure you have the correct device, otherwise you'll end up with a light weight brick!

what is the cost with all this ? WHat are the subscription fees and are the available in SA?

WD TV Live from Takealot R1256 delivered. No subscription just an ADSL line and datacap that can keep up...

I paid R1180 for mine (store owner at work). No subs required, except for those services that are subscription based but most of the streaming stuff it can do, seems to be free.

A lot of streamed 'TV' like Red Bull Live, is browser based Flash, thats why these boxes are limited.

Perhaps a solution is an Android based media player box, saw a few in Singapore last year. Makes complete sense.

Sadly, even though Red Bull was added to services supported in the latest firmware I could not get the live XCO to play. Non-live shows seems to work though

Hi all - raising this thread from its hiatus. I am busy looking at the WD live and want to know if anyone is successfully streaming over their network - i.e. watching content stored on another computer using 100mb or 1gb ethernet connection - in particular HD content.

Looking very seriously at this device as opposed to a xbmc build - which looks like costing about 3k (as opposed to R850 vat free)
