Hi Hubbers,

I'm very please to announce the live release of the much awaited NEW Classifieds section.
From today we'll be phasing out the existing Classifieds as we move over to the new system.

What will this mean?
  • All new adverts must be posted in the new Classifieds section and not in the forums as it works currently
  • You'll still be able to browse existing adverts and reply to them in the forums
Key Features

Categories, listings and Filtering

One of the first changes you may notice is that we've introduced proper classifications. So instead of having to sift through mountains of ads to find a specific item you can choose to browse only ads in a specific category or subcategory.

If you're looking for some upgrades for your Road bike you could browse all ads in the Road Category or narrow down to the Road -> Groupsets subcategory. And if you're just browsing, on the hunt for any bargain, you can still browse all ads in all categories.

Order of adverts
You'll also notice that the ordering of adverts has changed. Previously, by default, adverts were ordered based on the date of the last reply with the most recently commented on appearing first.

Now, by default, adverts are ordered based on the date they were added with the most recently added appearing first. If you prefer the "old" view you can choose to order by the date of the last comment using the order options.

Filtering Options
Along with filtering by category, you can further narrow your search by:

  • Area: Province, e.g. Western Cape, Gauteng
  • Price: Specify your price range
  • Advert Type: For sale or Wanted
  • Advertiser: private seller or business
Attached Image: filters.jpg

We hope these enhancements will improve the browsing experience and make it easier for you to find what you're looking for.

Trader Ratings and Feedback
Another key addition is the Trader Ratings feature. This allows you to rate your experience of a deal with any Hubber as Positive, Neutral (indifferent) or Negative and provide a short comment on this.
Ratings are tallied up to get an overall rating for a Trader.

Here's a shot of the Rating Card which you can view by clicking the rating icon which appears on the advert page.

Attached Image: rating-popup.jpg

This shows a summary of all feedback received to give you an overview of how their rating is calculated and how many ratings they've received.

You can also view more detail on the ratings and comments a Trader has received.

Advert Management

Many users struggled with finding their adverts, editing titles or deleting them altogether in the past. None of these were very user friendly and most often users had to contact us for help.

With the new Classifieds we've introduced a central advert management page where you can see and manage all ads you've posted. You can quickly get a list of all active, closed and expired ads that you've posted and easily:

  • Edit titles, category or details
  • Open / close ads
  • Re-list expired ads
  • Delete them permanently

This is just an overview of some of the key features. There are various smaller improvements you may notice while using the new Classifieds. For some basic how-to guides on posting ads and questions on how certain features work please have a look at the Help section.

Feedback: We're looking to continuously improve on this system so please give us your feedback in the Classifieds Feedback Forum.
Bug reports: If you stumble across a bug please let us know by posting in the Classifieds Feedback Forum and we'll squash it ASAP!

So would we now have to choose which section (new or old) to post under?
2 posts or automatically update both sections?

but else it looks AWESOME!!

No, all new ads must be posted in the new Classifieds section.

Any existing ads in the Forum version of the Classifieds (i.e. the old version) will remain open for replies, but you won't be able to post new ads.

NEW adverts should go into the NEW Classifieds section only, as I understand it...

The old section will thereby die gracefully, over the next few weeks/months... At a later stage, the mods might be tasked with moving things over - alternatively, as the new site picks up - it would make sense for current ad owners to pop up a note in the old ad, explaining that they've moved/placed a copy up in the new section...
"What you doing Mr. Munson?
Flossing.
Flossing? Where the hell did I get Munson?"

"This Bellini is starting to look like a real Kapuchnik."

I noticed that when posting a new ad a picture(an actual picture) is not a requirement, is this not an issue that will keep coming up? Otherwise it looks great

Well Done Matt...looks good.
Out of the night that covers me,Black as the pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance. My head is bloody, but unbowed.Beyond this place of wrath and tearsLooms but the Horror of the shade,And yet the menace of the years,Finds and shall find me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate,How charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate:I am the captain of my soul.

It's something I did consider, but chose to leave it as optional. In most cases when people don't post a picture it's mainly because they didn't know how or where to. The naming 'Attachments' in the old system was a little vague. I'm hoping that more people will post pics now simply because it's a little easier.

I don't want to stop people from posting an ad because they don't have a pic or can't post it (e.g. don't know how to resize).

I will include a visible note in the Listing page to encourage people to post a pic. As if they don't they will be asked to anyway.. a few times Posted Image
