I've just moved to Cape Town and thought that everything would be good in terms of cycling around the city. Don't get me wrong, better by far than Jhb. But I would say every single shop in the centre of the city, including the few that I've visited in the Southern Suburbs, don't have racks to park one's bikes.

I know that the City of Cape Town is putting them in around the city (applause) but I find it really random that places like Revolution Cycles, Soloped Cycles and all the others don't have racks to parks one's bike outside their actual shops. Surely all their customers don't come to their shops with 4 x 4s?

Also the only business that I've actually seen that have bicycle racks in the Cape Town International Convention Centre, and the Sea Point library.

(I know that there is a bicycle map that has been released with parkings and routes etc. I haven't seen it yet. The above is just my impression having cycled all around Cape Town in the last couple of months and having to have chained my bike to stop signs etc for that time.)

Thoughts?

If I go to a bike shop with a bike ill just take the bike inside with me when shopping. If they have a problem with that its not a real bike shop. As for the other places like shopping malls etc where it might not be appropriate to take the bike inside it would be great if they can have a bike stand right next to the entrance where the security guard is standing it doesn't cost that much.

Take the bicycle inside the cycle shops.

Otherwise it's a cheap bike to ride elsewhere and I just lock it up (gaurd rale where people won't bash it etc) in a parking lot that is controlled by booms.

Kinda obvious, but something we've missed as well as most customer bring their bikes in with them if they want. Safe where we are so no issue with leaving it outside anyway, so we'll add this with the other mods busy taking place.

Thanks for the idea!
